Looks like the NE U.S. might see the first big tropical storm of the season.

Good thing I'm on the second floor. I will have to go down to Boston harbor (one street away) and--

It's basically a very precautionary watch for the Cape and Nantucket and Martha's Vinyard; they're expecting it to go significantly offshore.

.INCLUDING CAPE COD...NANTUCKET ISLAND AND MARTHA'S VINEYARD. Oh, my heavens, Buffy, it's heading straight for the yacht club.

Good thing.
We really haven't had enough rain this year.

Drivers on the islands south of Cape Code, such as Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, should avoid driving across bridges if Beryl approaches too closely, so they don't get blown off into the water.
Except for Ted Kennedy. He doesn't need help from a tropical storm to end up with his car in the drink.

The whole thing is going to collapse like a house of cards. Many will be hurt and when the forensics are done there will only be one man to blame:
Bush!

When I was in 6th grade, we went on a field trip to all the hurricane centers in the US, and glued all the CAPS LOCK keys on their keyboards to the pressed-down position.

Then after they sober up they will be demanding FEMA fix it!

So just for regional curiosity, how would y'all pronounce the storm's name?
Here in Texas, I've always heard it pronounced Burl (my great-grandmother was a Beryl), but a Yankee talk show host yesterday referred to it as "Barrel," more or less. (He's from Montana, so perhaps we can make allowances.)

I am sure it is pronounced Barrel.
I had a friend in high school named Doyle. But he was "Dole" to us.
