WASHINGTON The House, citing the nation's religious origins, voted Wednesday to protect the Pledge of Allegiance from federal judges who might try to stop schoolchildren and others from reciting it because of the phrase "under God."
The legislation, a priority of social conservatives, passed 260-167. It now goes to the Senate where its future is uncertain.
"We should not and cannot rewrite history to ignore our spiritual heritage," said Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Tenn. "It surrounds us. It cries out for our country to honor God."

We need God's protection, but He certainly doesn't need that of the U.S. Congress. This is an election year stunt. The people would be better served if Congress cleaned up its act and led by example.

No, it is not unconstitutional. Congress has been passing laws taking jurisdiction away from the courts for centuries now. There are many examples.
One is the Wilson Bridge on the Potomac River between Md and Va on the Washington Beltway. The old bridge was in jeopardy of falling into the river if a new one did not get built. Environmentalists had the new bridge tied up in court for 10 years! Finally, the Congress got fed up and passed a law prohibiting any US court from hearing any lawsuit concerning building the bridge.
Construction began soon after that.

If Hillery gets voted in, then you can vote on that. As for now, that is not up for a vote.
Except for the fact that it was just voted on.

I know what you mean!
Then again, no one seems to have set out the case for "under God" correctly. the United States was founded on the political theory that we have certain rights that derive from God - or, to put it a bit differently, from no human source. The concept that all men are created equal, and endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, means that the King, or the State, can't take these rights away. Certainly the words were added to distinguish us from the "Godless" communists, but not, I think for the reason most people think.
America has not always lived up perfectly to its founding philosophy, and humans are imperfect and will not always (perhaps only rarely!) correctly divine the will of God. Certainly much misery has been visited on the world by people claiming, and believing, that they were doing God's will.
But to me, it's comforting to know that there is SOME higher authority we look to for guidance (even if it's only meant as a theoretical construct), rather than looking to the state, even a democracy. One need only to look at the efforts of the left to take God out of public society to see that there is a danger when humans think they are the ONLY authority.
Just another idea.

I have been vacationing for the last weekd. I just got back home from D.C and nine other states. Had not herd this news.
Exactly when and what was this being voted on? And was it killed in the House or Senate? Also, can you tell me how each Rep and/or Senator voted? Thanks

Burzy, the language you are quoting says explicitly what you seem to think it doesn't.
The Congress defines the Federal Courts and sets the jurisdiction of them, hence, why there was talk of splitting the 9th circuit, etc. This law is completely in keeping with the checks and balances of the Constitution.

That's not bad. I think this bodes well for the fall election. Lawmakers know the country is shifting to more more conservative values overall and they don't want to lose.

What year was that picture from? I was a child of the early 50's and we never saluted the flag like that...always with the hand over the heart!! That salute started in 1892 and ended in 1942 because it was similar to the NAZI salute. Obviously some people think that anyone who loves their country is a NAZI. Of course being a big government socialists who wants to kill anyone who is not their race and blames Jews for all their problems had nothing to do with the evils of being a NAZI. The real evil of being a NAZI was a love for God and their country, or so some would imply.
To: Quick1
How about a law that mandates all schoolchildren recite this socialist loyalty oath that mentions God? How is it Socialists? So loving your country is socialism? Typical libertarian religion hating nonsense and a perfect example of why libertarians will never be more than 1 per-centers.
To: Jazzman1

American children that grew up in the 50s became God-Fearing Patriots when they became adults That's how it worked for me.

I don't know who your God is, but mine is strong enough not to need to be protected by my inconsequential soul. I don't know who your God is, but mine has warned us that if we don't call upon the Lord, the watchmen watch in vain.

How the pledge used to be performed...
Very cute #33- and MISLEADING. But you knew that didn't you.
The above pic, which you pulled off of Wiki is the BELLAMY Salute, with palms up - not, NOT the Nazi (or Roman) one which I think you're trying to infer.
Shame on you.
