"Do you mean even the creation of life through artificial means in morally wrong?"

No, assuming you're talking about using the extra efforts of medical science to help sperm and egg combine.

I think that creating "spares" and then tossing them is reprehensible.

Thank you, Dear God, that our President has chosen life and truth. May Your Name be praised and glorified! Amen.

So "life" now begins in a test tube, eh? Well, I've read the Bible many times and I see many references to "womb" mentioned where life begins but I have yet to have seen the word "test tube". Please enlighten me and tell me where I might find it so I can join with you who worship a zygote and blastocyst that would (and by law in cases where owners demand often are) ordinarily be discarded instead of used for research as, IMHO, perhaps God would want SO WE COULD INDEED SAVE MORE WHO CHOOSE TO LIVE!

BUMPITY! BUMPITY! BUMP!

I believe Ronald Regan cleared this one up when he noted that all the people for abortion were already born. I can't see a difference on this issue of ESR.

A little late finding it, but a well-taken veto indeed! This will hopefully prevent some bio-researcher from feeding my grandkids Solyent Green!

I did not realize the only method of obtaining the material was from abortions? Are you contrnding that all of the material is human and it is therefore a sancitfication issue? How do you juxtapose that with the rest of medical advaancements?

What part of HUMAN embryo Stem cell research did you not understand?

Why didn't we get private companies to take us into space?

National Defense. Also not nearly as much money to be made as the medical industry. Even if it took 40 years, the first one to break the code, will be Bill Gates rich.

"What's interesting to me is how many people who call themselves conservatives are NOT delighted that their money is not going to be spent on this."

Because they're NOT conservatives.  These are impostors who look for ANY reason to oppose President Bush, even if it means exposing themselves to their real motives.

This is wonderful, and I am thrilled that this President chose to veto this bill. As has and will be pointed out numerous times, this does not stop the speculative embryonic stem cell research that is already going on, but it keeps government OUT of funding the human-harvesting business.

I just wish more money would be devoted to the much more efficacious adult stem cell and cord blood research. But the infanticide crowd wanted this one to "justify" their views on abortion. It's a big win for our side, instead.

This President has done brilliantly on the WOT, tax cuts, two spectacular Supreme Court nominees, John Bolton, getting us out of ICC and old treaties, and so many other things, this is more proof that he's headed in the right direction. Now, (rolling up sleeves), Mr. President, let's tackle the budget AND our border invasions!

Hey, meandog, if you are so for this approach, please volunteer to donate your liver to someone who needs it. If you believe in destroying human life so that others may receive medical benefits, take the first step yourself.

Gee, meandog, if those embryos are put into a womb, they tend to develop into living humans. And I'm still waiting for your explanation of how you bypassed the zygote stage when your mother was carrying you.

Your points are misguided.

1) Gasoline was lower because Clinton was letting terrorists ans the governments that sposor them run amock. When Bush began to confront them, it affected prices. I will take the right to live without being blown up over gas prices anyday. If you are dead, the price of gas is not important.

2) Bosnia was primarily an air campaign against a government and its forces and not terrorists. You can not equate the two. Also, Bosnia was not sactioned by the UN and was done unilaterally, unlike President Bush having UN resolutions that authorized the war and a coalition of the willing.

3) The Nasdaq and the stock market were soaring under Clinton but that is because allot of large public companies, hundreds of them, were inflating their earnings on bogus information because the Clinton DOJ and his administration were not watching them responsibily. Truth be known, if investors knew the truth about the companies actual earnings, the Nasdaq and stock market would have been allot lower!

4) We had a balanced budget because of the republican congress. They had to drag Clinton to the table on this. We had a surplus because Clinton was scaling back on defense spending and gutting our military, which Bush has had to reverse.

Some of the reasons we have a deficit -

1) 911 cost of about 2 trillion dollars damage to our economy.
2) The bust of the tech industry.
3) The infalted earnings by hundreds of public and private companies.
4) And some runaway spending.

** By Bush cutting taxes, the deficit is allot lower because of tax revenues.

That's 10 lbs of hyperbole in a 5-lb sack. I am anti-abortion and I support embryonic stem-cell research. An embryo is not a human life, it is a lump of chemicals that can be frozen for decades. When it is thawed and implanted, then it is allowed to develop into a human life.

Well then reality is scary. One wonders how you get on in the world. Whether or not I "like" something or find it "scary" has no bearing on its truth, which is why I actually accomplish things. I don't whine about rules I can't change, I study the rules as they exist and figure out how to win from there.

I have an opposition to abortion, but that fact does not preclude me from recognizing the obvious. You do not get to choose which parts of reality you have to deal with, so you better accept the facts and figure how to get the results you desire based on those facts. "Scary" does not figure into it. Are you more interested in accomplishing things, or would you rather live in a comfortable delusion about the way the universe actually is?

"An apple seed is not an apple tree. An embryo is not a human being until it is a fetus."

An apple seed has the same DNA as an apple tree. It is not a different species.

A human embryo has the same DNA as a full grown human being. It is the same species.

If killing an adult human is immoral, killing an embryo is immoral. They are both human, in different stages of development.

If killing an embryo is moral, then killing an adult human is moral. Who do you want to make that decision for you?

I see you are a Reagan independant. I too was a fan of Reagan but I have more respect for this president.

When our sleeping Marines were attacked in Beirut and over 200 killed, Regean pulled our troops out making us look weak and cowardly. Wrong move in the middle east. Those countries respect strength only.

As a former marine, I would rather go to war with W at the helm, than Reagan.

If the legislature passes a budget, then the legislators should have to take the political fall out for it.

First of all, the legislature is a state body, not Congress. Expecting Congress to police itself is like turning the asylum over to the inmates. Our system is predicated on a system of checks and balances in which the Congress presents a bill and the president has the option of signing it or vetoing it. Secondly, my palpable anger at Bush for finally exercising his veto power isn't necessarily directed at this bill (he always opposed stem cell research), but it is that he has signed an untold number of crappy bills and horribly bloated budgets in the past 5 years that deserved his veto and he has taken this long to learn how to spell the word.

And, for your edification, stem cell research has been underway for many years. This bill is directed toward embryonic stem cell research which, to date (depending on the studies you believe), has not yielded any useful medical improvements.

Bush goes against the majority of Congress and 70% of American people to push his personal religious point of view.

Religion over science.

I don't think there are any polls out there showing 70% of the American people support the use of federal tax dollars to fund embryonic stem cell research. There was no way the President should sign this bill. He was absolutely right to veto it. As for the idea that this veto is pushing his personal religious point of view or a case of "religion over science", the bill itself was pushing the religious view of liberalism that worships at the altar of abortion above all else. From a scientific perspective, it makes no sense whatsover to throw tax dollars at a failed proposition of embryonic stem cell reseach when ALL the scientific experiments on stem cell therapy have demonstrated that adult stem cells and umbilical cord blood stem cells show promise in developing treatment for over 70 different diseases, but not one single viable treatment has yet been identified from embryonic stem cell research.

Either you have bought the LIES of the embryonic stem cell proponents (who are simply trying to see how far they can push the envelope on the ethics of creating and destroying human life), or you believe that any and every event presents a reason to bash Bush for something.
