Anyone who calls our Commander in Chief in time of war

To be honest, whether we are in a time of war or not should not excuse anyone from criticism.

Especially when that war has no end in sight - it'll still be going on long after the majority of American troops leave Iraq and Afghanistan, and it'll be waged all over the world, it'll probably be going on long after you, I, and everybody else in this thread have passed away.

A sad day for many people with Spinal Cord Injuries, and other issues that this research could help

Tell you what - since you're so concerned about helping those in medical need, donate your liver to someone who needs one. So what if a human life is destroyed in the process? Someone else gets to live.

Why don't we talk sometime when your brain is in control of your feelings? Then you might make some sense.

LOL, my wife says that I never make sense...but OK, we'll discuss at a later date, when the medication wears off!

Thank your son for me, for his service. Our troops can never receive too much appreciation.

Because someone (LF) claims a belief, that does not make him a liar.

Don't bandy words with me. He stated, unequivocally, that 70% of Americans agreed with embryo stem cell research and that is a LIE.

Again you are making assumptions about (LF) and then suggest he leave the country.

I'm not making any assumptions, I am commenting on what the lunatic posted. And if someone is not content with a locale why wouldn't one suggest they depart?

Maybe, Cobra, you've failed to understand my opinions or statements and opinion?

Where is that written or mandated?

Not mandated, but most people have a self-interest in maximizing the value and benefit of being human. Given that, the rest falls out of mathematics and economics. As communists have discovered, you cannot forcibly alter economic behavior independent of outcomes.

To put it another way, the market is already driven to maximize human value and benefit and has adapted accordingly. Manipulating the market by fiat will inevitably reduce human value and benefit, as always predicted by theory and as always happens in practice. The value of markets is that it creates incentives for others to recognize and realize the value of a given human that they otherwise might not have.

Just because you do not like the idea of humans as commodities does not make it untrue as a matter of fact nor does it make it an inefficient way to maximize human value and benefit -- the nominal goal.

Do me a favor - show one potential treatment that has come from embryonic cells, as opposed to other stem cells.

An embryo is not a human being until it is a fetus.

And the Jews/Slavs/Tutsi/Armenians are less than human. Part of the rationalization process to justify killing them.

But we have a bunch of brainwashed fools who let their religion rule their lives. Pathetic.

You are the pathetic one. My pro-life position comes from Nat Hentoff, for the reasons above - your language treating an embryo as something less than human to justify killing it is very akin to the language used to justify genocide. Which is why it is heinous.

So try and debate THAT with your dismissive insults.

Show me a single person who currently or has ever walked the face of the earth that did not begin life as an embryo.

Thanks for showing you cannot.

Now, there have been quite a few breakthroughs in adult and placental stem cell research. But the promoters like to confuse the various methods in promoting federal funding for embryonic.

The pendulum will swing back away from this temporary trip into Fundamentalism. And the country will be better off for it.

This country has NOT taken a trip into fundamentalism, temporary or otherwise. Would that it be so.

35-40 years ago stores were not open on Sunday
You could watch TV with any age group or sex and not be embarrassed by the material on the program or the commercials.
Children were dressed as children, not hookers and pimps.
Women dressed as ladies, not some whore that had just gotten off work.
Movies did not need rated, for the most part. Sexual situations were left to your imagination, not presented like you were watching a porn flick. (Same for TV)

You can hear offensive language on nearly every program on TV, including the news, but when our President, during a private conversation, says "sh*!" the world acts as if he had committed some heinous crime. Who are the "fundamentalists" now?

People flock from all over the world to live in the United States of America, then have the unmitigated gaul to criticize our way of life and beliefs. Why is that "ExPat"? If they don't like it here they should feel free to leave. Quit trying to change my country.

I am just making sure I read you correctly...when you say:

"I find it all very troubling and morally wrong, but I am increasingly convinced that government cannot fill an ethical/moral vacuum." Do you mean even the creation of life through artificial means in morally wrong?

What you call "spare parts" were intended to save human lives.

You're right, that justifies killing unborn life.

Anytime I see people resort to name calling, it tells me all I need to know.

That's pretty funny from someone who resorted to name-calling against Bush for taking a prinicipled stand here. I vehemently disagree with Bush on immigration and spending. But if you are going to call him names and insult him over your differences, don't whine when you get the same treatment back.

That's not just a "take" on the subject. That is the reality. Just where do these arrogant researchers think they will find all the ovum that are needed for embryonic stem cell cloning research? Do they think women are just going to volunteer their "eggs?" What woman would volunteer for "scientific reasons"When she finds out that drugs must be given to "volunteers" to make them increase their ovum production. Not a pleasant thing. Maybe ovum producing women will become the new animal farm species. Can we place this somewhere in human evolution?
