Last week I was in Atlanta , Georgia attending a conference. While I was in the airport, returning home, I heard several people behind me beginning to clap and cheer. I immediately turned around and witnessed one of the greatest act's of patriotism I have ever seen.
Moving thru the terminal was a group of soldiers in their camo's, as they began heading to their gate everyone (well almost everyone) was abruptly to their feet with their hands waving and cheering. When I saw the soldiers, probably 30-40 of them, being applauded and cheered for it hit me. I'm not alone. I'm not the only red blooded American who still loves this country and supports our troops and their families.
Of course I immediately stopped and began clapping for these young unsung heroes who are putting their lives on the line everyday for us so we can go to school, work and home without fear or reprisal. Just when I thought I could not be more proud of my country or of our service men and women a young girl, not more than 6 or 7 years old, ran up to one of the male soldiers. He kneeled down and said "hi," the little girl then she asked him if he would give something to her daddy for her. The young soldier, he didn't look any older than maybe 22 himself, said he would try and what did she want to give to her daddy. Then suddenly the little girl grabbed the neck of this soldier, gave him the biggest hug she could muster and then kissed him on the cheek.

I sat and cried after reading the full story this morning. I wish as an average mom that I could do more to help the troops. I am so proud of them all. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Wasn't this a commercial awhile back?

mouths of babes...[sniffle]

I've witnessed this before at Atlanta Airport. It's actually a very small terminal...
I'm noticing little things... You drive by a group of reservists walking down the street and people honk and wave at them.
It must make them feel good.
Nothing looks better than a young guy in Marine Dress Uniform...

Soldiers, Marines, etc. are applauded contantly at airports. I see this constantly. Thank God there are lots of Republicans and Independent humans/voters (plus a small scattering of non-insane democrats) at these airports.

The commercial had a group of people in the terminal clapping for a few military personnel as they walked through.

Last weekend, I stayed in the same hotel as an Air Force unit returning from the sandbox ... seemed like everybody was welcoming them home.
This was in Maryland ... hardly a 'red' state, though most of the hotel guests were probably not from MD.

When leaving or returning to the USNA, my son usually travels in civvies. He says it's just more comfortable on a cross country flight. He did find that when he traveled in his uniform that many people smiled and even offered to buy him food!

From curses to kisses......from spit to tears.....
What a difference 40+ years can make...
Is is because Islamists are more reviled than communists?
Or, is it because the civilians themselves feel more threatened by Islamists?
It's a welcome change - regardless of motive.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution had this on the front page:
Troops berated by mob at airport:
As 3 dozen troops walked to their plane through Hartsfield International Airport they were met by a thunderous noise. It wasn't applause, No it was "booing" mixed with shouts of "murderer" and "killer." Given recent Pew and Zogby polling it did not surprise me to see this reaction(polls said that 99.99% of Americans think that we should get out of Iraq and pay the Bathist Party reparations). Its clear that the Iraqi people aren't the only ones who want us out of Iraq. Even more there was a young girl who couldn't have been more than 6 years old, she walked up to one troop and said, "why are you killing those nice Arabs, Islam is a religion of peace". I could not be more proud of this young girl or her parents. To think that through the misrepresentation of the war by the media she was able to understand that the Americans are wrong, and that this is just some cowboys war, shows that America DOES have a chance. This was truly a heartwarming show of support for our Islamic brethren and a denouncement of this rouge administrations policies. America truly is a county full of compassion and understanding.

My daughter left for Navy boot camp yestrday. She was at the airport in New Orleans when she called me for the last time for a few weeks. A guy at the bar heard her tell me that she was now the property of Uncle Sam and he yelled "buy this girl a beer!!!!" It was a great feeling for her and me. (of course she couldn't drink it)
