Also, I generally do not stay in hotels that allow car's to run in the rooms

But, you have no problem, spewing your car exhuast in childrens faces,.. Park your car, or shut up.

"The house I bought was from a smoker and we spent forever scrubbing the walls and ceiling."

Ask before you buy.

"What I do object to, however, is the way the smokers congregate JUST OUTSIDE the building door, so if you want in or out, you MUST go through that smoke. Why not move, say, 15 feet to the side? They'd still be under shade, and I wouldn't have to be smoked up to get to work or lunch."

Awwwww, well that's just too bad. People like you are the ones who forced them out there.

"For some with allergies (a few members of my family), a stay in a room with even a slight smoke smell can be extremely unpleasant."

For some with allergies, the smell of cleaning products, room deodorizer, fabric softener, or lingering scent of perfume can be extremely unpleasant.

"No, I do NOT want "someone" to move them.

I want them to move themselves because it's polite to do so, and because they realize that their habit is one many people find noxious.

Can you understand the distinction, or do I have to use shorter words?"

I think the polite thing for you to do is to stay the hell out of smoking permitted establishments or where owners permit smokers to gather. Use your free choice and patronize a smoke free establishment. If you aren't happy with the policies of other business owners, get off your lazy ass and open up your own establishment; then you can set your very own smoking policy.

"It's the PC/Bandwagon-hoppers with the "in your face" attacks that have caused smokers to confront the accusers now, and that's too bad. Peaceful co-existence between smokers and non-smokers is sadly gone, as the assault on rights of individuals has been taken way out of bounds to the extent that LAWS against freedoms are being enacted, to the cheers of the anti-smoker fanatics."

This is true...they get no more consideration from me. If someone does not like it, tough! If customers come into my establishment and complain, I politely suggest that they are welcome to dine/drink at another establishment.

True; they are similar to smoke that way (different people will react differently to each).

Do you really want non-smokers to do this? If a large number did, it wouldn't be long before most business owners decided to ban smoking on their properties.

I'm not talking about establishments I get a choice to patronize.

I'm talking about my office. So tell me again how I should stay the hell out of my building.

Finally, as you have absolutely NO KNOWLEDGE of my ass and its work ethic, please refrain from name-calling.

People like me weren't asked about it. We would have allowed people like you your smoking room. Now, as it is, people like me who want to enter or exit our workplace HAVE to walk through noxious clouds created by people like you.

And for the record, while abominating the habit, I have been nothing but nice to smokers personally. You, on the other hand, call me a lazy ass and make snide remarks about "people like me."

I want antismokers (which are very different from nonsmokers) to stay away from smoking permitted establishments if they do not wish to be around smoke. It's just like the decision I make to avoid certain establishments where the prices are too high, or the decision I make to not go to a Chinese restaurant if I want to eat filet mignon. It's called freedom of choice...It's a real simple concept.

Nah...that's ok. That's exactly what you are if you complain about the policies of other business owners but fail to force change in the market the real American way; a way that leaves choice for everyone.

If you're upset about the smoke in your building, speak to your boss and ask them to set aside a room where smokers can go to smoke. If you're worried about smoke seeping out from the room, request that they stuff a towel under the door and close the door quickly.

Yes, I for one, have been known to come down with a nasty sinus infections if go into a place where scented candles are burning, or someone is wearing perfume. Im also allergic to fabric softner...makes me itch terribly and have even got hives from it.
I happen to like the smell of tobacco though...different strokes for different folks.

My boss has no say in the building's policy, which is mandated by the city of Houston.

Keep 'em coming, though. Your agenda-driven rudeness is sorta funny.

Scented candles are the worst--I really despise those things.

I actually don't have a big allergy problem with tobacco smoke in limited quantities. I don't like the smell of cigarettes, but good cigar or pipe smoke can have quite a pleasant odor (much better than scented candles).

'Ya get what ya give.

No one would be battling over this kind of think if antis would have just realized that they live in America...then they would know that here we have (or had) something called private property rights, and that people are permitted to choose for themselves which businesses they patronize.

Antis have little to no respect for others or for the freedoms that we are afforded as Americans. I think you and all your anti friends should go back to 6th grade social studies class...there you should learn something about all the blood that was shed fighting so that you could have freedoms, be allowed to have/make choices, and have property rights.

Contact the owner of the building.

The owner of the building has no say. The city of Houston has all the say. Which you'd know if you'd actually read my post.

I'm not an anti-smoker, contrary to the fevered imaginings you're apparently listening to.

You do nothing to help your cause by being so freakin' rude.
