I wrote the original "book" on the Trident, and I think if it came to that, we would not use D-5s, but hundreds of cruise missiles. Iran can not have had time to sufficiently both develop nukes and protect them in impregnable bunkers.

The threshhold of nuclear war by the U.S. is too great---even Reagan told his close confidants he did not know if he could retaliate with nukes if the U.S. was attacked. Moreover, the fallout winds would sweep both Iraq and Afghanistan, endangering hundreds of thousands of U.S. troops. It won't happen.

An Ohio class is always in range of everywhere in the world. Iran should know that if they nuke ANYONE, Iran will cease to exist and will be replaced by a forbidden zone for the next 10,000 years.
