WRKO suspended talk-show host John DePetro yesterday for using a slur for "homosexual" in reference to Turnpike Authority chairman Matthew J. Amorello.
The morning host, who calls himself "The Independent Man," was suspended for two days after using the epithet on the air during a discussion of Amorello's conduct following the ceiling collapse of the I-90 connector. DePetro called Amorello "[expletive] Matt," adding, "I don't mean gay [expletive]. I mean like he's a sissy boy. He's a little sissy boy."
Neither DePetro nor Amorello returned calls late yesterday, but WRKO program director Jason Wolfe said the station has "zero tolerance for racial intolerance... Mr. DePetro has 72 hours to think about this." Wolfe said he purposely chose the word "racial" because "people will lump everything in together."

OK, but his numbers have kinda stunk. They gotta be thinking about it. And they keep subbing Maloney for various people, not impossible that they're trying him out.
The regular subs for DePetro, "Pundit Review Radio," are green but good -- in my opinion.
d.o.l.
Criminal Number 18F
That's exactly what I thought.
Butt screwing is not a color.
Haha, "Bassoon Matt"!
but if homosexual marriage is normal why is being called 'fag' an insult?
at least someone has been suspended over the bid dig issue of course john didn't kill anybody
>>Michael Savage
Not quite into Savage myself though sometimes I'll listen for a minute or two. Next year parts of his show will be pre-empted (assuming he's in the 10 pm time slot) by Red Sox.
(Some kind of weird arrangement puts MOST Sox games on WRKO,
though I believe Friday nights will be on WEEI...as well as some weekday afternoon games. They don't want to pre-empt
Howie.)
At least one of the Pundit Review guys is a regular caller
to Howie's show, "Kevin from Danvers", IIRC. Not the first time a "caller" later got his own shown...Fox Sports Radio's JT The Brick is another example.
From what I've heard, Rush and Howie get great ratings on WRKO while the morning show and DePetro don't. The ratings I have access to--the 12 and over, via radioandrecords.com,
seem to show WRKO doing well but the "25 to 54" (only industry types get those) has them not doing as well, and that's their prime demographic. (If I'm in the "radio industry", it's as a 25-years-and-counting blues DJ on
college radio, which means I'm not really in _commercial_
radio!_
John DePetro relies somewhat on the shock-factor to try and make his show interesting. (Doesn't work). And Fat Matt Amarello reminds us that there are bad eggs in both parties (though more so in the Left-leaning one), and that this is especially true in Massachusetts.
Do you think is he called him a murderer instead, he'd still have his job?
A caller to the radio show, a few days ago, said "I need to correct people when they call this an 'accident.' This was not an accident."
When the Celtics arrived, Savage was pushed back to 10 and
Taste of Boston Tonight was inserted on nights when there was no game. Later (prob. when Jason Wolfe came in), Todd Feinburg, the host (who is heard nationally on weekends)
started doing it as politics/current events, so apparently
the food-lifestyle talk wasn't catching on.
Next year when the Sox come to 'RKO it will cause some
shifts. It's already been said Friday night games and
some weekday games (like this week: Sox are on today at 1
and tomorrow at 2) would air on WEEI instead.
With Sox games starting usually at 7, that means the pre-game starts at 6:25...so would we lose the last half
hour of Howie's show?
Maybe they'd have the pre-game on WEEI and you'd start the game at 7 on 'RKO. Or they could pre-empt that last half hour and you could try it on WCRN, WXTK, etc., or online.
On Martin Luther King Day, the Celts pre-empted much of
Howie's show. He did get on, about 6:20. I decided to go for a drive and for awhile could hear him on WEIM in Fitchburg. I headed back toward Boston; WEIM faded away, and the Celts
were still on 'RKO for awhile longer. Stunk!
Yeah I couldn't find anything of interest on "Waste of Boston" but usually the Sox are on opposite it anyway (and I work nights and listen to them. WRKO comes in better that WEEI
at work so that's good news for me, Sox-wise.
Usually I can't take people with really raspy voices* but Hunt is funny.
*--have done college radio for years and when I go on "with a cold", which is rare, I get all distracted hearing my raspy voice in the headphones. That could be part of it, thoughts of me when my OWN voice is raspy!
>>Wolfe said he purposely chose the word ``racial" because ``people will lump everything in together."
oh ok
The article mentions some of WRKO's hosts and the name of a certain Herald writer who does an afternoon show is absent. (Hmm.)
Perhaps foppish?
also found a page with info on Howie: his name is said to be Howard Louis Carr, Jr. I had heard him say before that his middle name is Louis, though VB or others started saying "Lawrence", and the intro Dana Hersey is currently using says "Howard Lawrence Cahhhhhhhhhhhhhh"...The page says his dad (now in his 90s I believe, maybe even close to 100) is Howard Louis Carr, Sr, though I thought Howie was calling him "Del". Maybe Del is his nickname. oh well
oops, Threadgold
Nothing like trying to hit on a girl with her mom translating. Didn't work out, imagine that. But, it's because my bus was leaving. Yeah, that's it. This was back in my Drum Corps days.
oops--re-read article. He IS mentioned, in the middle.
Wonder if Howie will talk about the suspension today.
Or if he even can.
prob not but I wonder if anything will be on the chump line.
