Immigrant sweep snags 58 at Fort Bragg

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Federal agents conducting a sweep aimed at illegal immigrants detained 58 civilian workers Tuesday as they tried to enter Fort Bragg with suspected false or fraudulently obtained identification, officials said.

Almost all of them were construction workers, officials said.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, U.S. marshals and FBI agents worked with the military on the sweep, which was conducted between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. when most of the thousands of soldiers and civilian workers who live off the post enter the gates.

"Today's operation was part of our ongoing force protection measures," said post spokesman Tom McCollum. "There were no incidents or accidents."

Some of the people detained were from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, ICE spokesman Marc Raimondi said.

Four people were arrested for drug possession, McCollum said.

People trying to enter Fort Bragg with false IDs can be charged with criminal trespass and presenting false identification, McCollum said. The garrison commander also can prevent contractors who knowingly hire such people from working at the base.

In the past year, more than 150 people have been detained as they tried to enter Fort Bragg without proper ID, McCollum said. The base is home to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command and the 82nd Airborne Division.

IIRC, those would be 'prevailing wage' jobs, somewhere in the neighborhood of $18.00 to $40.00 an hour depending on skill and classification.
Yup, just more jobs Americans won't do...

Starts the arrests immediately from the contractor to the illegals to the person making the false ids.

And here I thought they meant Ft. Bragg, California. A sleepy little Mendocino County seaside town (packed full of liberals).

Time to fine the employers and pull their contractors licenses. Never again will they pull a permit to build anything in NC.

3 Fort Bragg Teachers Charged

Three people who taught foreign languages at the Joint Special Operations Command Center at Fort Bragg were arrested on immigration charges, federal officials said. Two Indonesians, Nurkis Qadariah, 34, and Sayf Rimal, 37, were arrested on Tuesday and charged with possessing and using false documents. Another man, Ousmane Moreau, 38, of Senegal, was arrested on Monday and charged with being in the country illegally.

-Bragg is not all that protected. Even less so out toward Camp Mackall, however, just try slowing down by the Jedi compound...

I drive by the "Jedi compound" every now and again. No problems for me when I slow down for a look.

In fact its not too far up the road from a nice place to relax as you fire off a few hundred rounds or so.

Lot of people going through those gates between 0500 and 0845.

Good afternoon.
"And here I thought they meant Ft. Bragg, California."

LOL! That was my very first thought. Then I wondered why Ft Bragg and not Ukiah.

Look for more of these token "raids" as we get closer to the November elections. Bush has to do something to convince the sheeple that the administration is "serious" about illegal immigration. LOL

To all who've posted here......Just reported on Fox and Friends.

All of the illegals 'arrested' were released. According to Fox, ICE was unable to 'charge' them due to what sounds like a loophole....because "they were not in the company of their smuggler."

Well, hopefully at least the employers are tagged and won't be doing any more business on FBNC. If the workers were being paid prevailing wage they were doing it illegally. Time to audit the books.
