They have a large car burning population of Muslims, so they knew already about who all the Arabic names were.

We do have a large Franco-Lebanese community. And as long as the person has a French (Or American, for that matter) passport and citizenship, isn't that person entitled to full protection by the nation who delivered the passport, regardless of race, creed, or funny-sounding accent ?
