Fox just showed a new women's brigade of the Al Aksah Martyrs in Gaza. I notice they all have on matching baseball caps with some sort of logo printed on them.

Apparently the Palestinians are starving but have no trouble doing custom print jobs on ball caps.

All of the above. Fog of war. No one knows what's true, or what's really happening.

Familiar with it. It still happens around here. Everytime there's a nearby explosion, or a series of them, about six stories go around before the true cause gets nailed down.

I've learned to automatically dismiss the first three or four explanations I hear.

Agreed. Murphy prevails.

When I mentioned the Singaporeans and Thais being evac'd, it actually *was* after the coup had ended. I could have comfortably ridden over to the airport to watch them leave.

The Embassy, though wrong the day before, was actually right the day after. I'll give them that.

ArmstedFragg - I'm going to be pretty busy the first half of this morning, but when i can get back to the 'puter i'd like to continue our "back and forth" we started when the whole Gaza incident got started. Looks like things have gone further than either really expected.

housands of Americans whose vacations and business trips to Lebanon have degenerated with sickening speed into stints in a battle zone remained stranded here under Israeli bombardment Monday, their frustration and anger mounting because the U.S. government hasn't gotten them out faster.

This sounds exactly like Katrina. I don't know when Americans stopped being can do people and became whiners, but it's darned embarrassing.

Hi Allegra,How are things:)

Never a dull moment! We're fine, though. Baghdad's pretty quiet today - not so in other parts of the country. (Sigh...)

How are you doing?

"I've learned to automatically dismiss the first three or four explanations I hear."

We had internal instant messaging up at Balad, and even that took a few minutes to settle down into reality after an alert.

I'll be in and out but the person I'm in contact with from Haifa has sent an email last night saying that she just can't get into the shower as she keeps getting interrupted by sirens.

" those darned sirens started howling again..Enough to wake the dead. They sound them in the streets, on the TV, and radio...I have come to the conclusion I should stay out of the shower..Everytime I go near one, 'meow meow' the sirens start...I grab my pillow and hold it over my ears as that siren scares me more than anything...."

It reminded her of this story

"my friend XABC told me about her husband. He was serving in a tank unit and during the Yom Kippur war he was eating some wafer biscuits, when suddenly his unit received a barrage of bombs and nearly all his friends were injured..Everyone except him.In all the confusion,he put the wafer biscuits back in his pocket and there they stayed until the end of the war...He thought and felt they brought him good luck...he wouldn't eat them."

A liberal "friend of a friend" had this sent to me in an attempt at fear-mongering.

I got a good laugh at it when I first received it.

"Hizballah Wants Israel to Free Child-Killer"
By Patrick Goodenough
CNSNews.com International Editor
July 18, 2006

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "(CNSNews.com) - An Arab prisoner Hizballah wants Israel to release in exchange for the two Israeli soldiers it abducted in a cross-border raid last week is serving multiple life sentences for an attack in which he killed a four-year-old girl by smashing her skull with a rifle butt.

Samir Kuntar is one of only two or three Lebanese prisoners still held by Israel, and Hizballah said its July 12 assault is aimed at winning his freedom.

The terrorists killed eight Israeli soldiers and seized Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, taking them back over the border. Their whereabouts and condition remain unknown.

The Shi'ite group dubbed the raid Operation True Promise (Al-Wa'ad Al-Sadeq), saying it was making good on an earlier pledge to continue to capture Israeli soldiers and use them to obtain the release of the remaining Lebanese in Israeli jails.

Since the raid, the conflict has escalated, with Israel launching an air assault on Lebanese infrastructure and Hizballah targets and Hizballah firing hundreds of missiles into Israel.

The fighting and loss of life have swung some attention away from the hostage issue, and Hizballah leader Hassan Nasrallah said in an address late last week that "the battle today is no longer a battle over prisoners or the exchange of prisoners."

Nonetheless, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said during a televised address to the nation Monday night that he kept photographs of Goldwasser and Regev - along with one of another soldier, Gilad Shalit, kidnapped by Hamas in a June raid across the Gaza-Israel frontier - on his desk as a daily reminder of his mission.

"We will do everything in our power to ensure their safe release and bring them back home," he said."

Heads need to roll at State after this is over,

5, count them, 5 State Department employee were terminated in the 16 years before Bush was elected.

What you say is the absolute truth but nothing will happen to anyone.

The State Department allowed the 9/11 hijackers into the country even though their visa applications were incomplete or improperly filled out. No one was fired.
