For Democrats, Wave Is Building
Washington Post ^ | 7/16/06 | Thomas E. Mann

There's probably no way congressional Republicans can lose this fall, no matter how unpopular President Bush is or how unhappy the voters are with the war in Iraq. That's the prevailing view in Washington today.

But it's wrong.

If history is any guide, we're heading into a major political storm. And that means we could see a national tide in November that will sweep the Democrats back into the majority.

Virtually every public opinion measure points to a Category 4 or 5 hurricane gathering...

But many analysts have noted the absence of strategic behavior on the part of the Democrats, who have failed to recruit good candidates and have allowed the Republicans to maintain a fundraising advantage...

Over the past year, the Cook Political Report has increased the number of Republican seats it considers highly vulnerable from two to 10, and those it considers somewhat vulnerable from 16 to 25. Eighteen others are potentially vulnerable. That's a total of 53 GOP seats at risk, double the number of a year ago. During the same period, the number of competitive Democratic seats declined from 14 to 10;, while the total number of Democratic seats at risk remained at 21...

The part that I don't get is where you got to dictate who is in their party or who is their party's nomination.

The President, a large segment of the party and the vast majority of the American people, are on the right side of the WOT.

"You" were setting the criteria for when it is proper for a someone to challenge and incumbent a party primary.

I look at the state of the Republican party and think the dems are at least going to pick up several seats in the house. Then I look at the dems and just don't see any way they are going to do that.

We'll have at least 30 more of these type stories between now and November.

Don't you remember the hundreds of similar stories forecasting Republican gains in 1994? Huh? Don't you?

I still remember their unwillingness to mention the GOP 54 seat gain in the house in a single news story that year. To my knowledge they still haven't mentioned the number in the commie press. That was a bad night for Democrats.

If so, it will only be due to the lying media that has trashed all things republican for the past 6 years, and a stupid bunch of voters who don't think for themselves.

"I" was explaining, to you, politics 101, which you appear to be completely devoid of knowing or understanding anything at all about.

I will put it very simply so that you can understand it. Your reasons for wanting a competitive primary contest don't need to be the same reasons for Connecticut dems to want a competitive primary contest. Perhaps they feel that Lieberman is undermining the dem "leadership" by his very public support for the WOT.

Did it ever occur to you that he is an ineffective Senator for his state?

Connecticut only gets back like $.65 in federal spending on every tax dollar that they send to D.C.

And "I" was explaining to you that those may be your reasons, but if you would actually look at the contest that is going on in Connecticut, then you would know that you were wrong. It is not solely about the WOT.

One of the big questions is, "How many of the "Conservative Purists" are going to sit on their hands to "Send a Message!".

These dipwads are the ones who will turn the keys to the kingdom over to the Socialists and then whine about the results.

I think it's quite clear that I've understood you from the very beginning.

So how's about that truck bomb that took out the Pentagon, huh? Government issue, or was that too obvious? Maybe the Ryder route...
