Iran warns Israel of “unimaginable losses” if Syria attacked

Iran warned its arch-enemy Israel Sunday of “unimaginable losses” if it attacks Syria adding that the Islamic republic was “standing by the Syrian people”.

“We hope the Zionist regime does not make the mistake of attacking Syria, because extending the front would definitely make the Zionist regime face unimaginable losses,” foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters.

“Iran is standing by the Syrian people,” he added.

“We have offered and will offer Syria and Lebanon spiritual and humanitarian support,” Asefi said, reiterating Iran’s denial that it is providing military and financial assistance to the Hezbollah movement.

He also hit out at the United States after President George W. Bush said Israel had “every right to defend itself”.

“The United States has had a destructive role by vetoing resolutions and hence encouraging the Israeli crimes,” Asefi said, referring to Washington’s use of its veto in the UN Security Council Thursday to block a resolution calling for a halt to an Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip.

“The United States should reconsider its policies and correct its wrong attitude of supporting the Zionist regime.”

This will never stop until Iran and Syria are taken care of. Whether this is the time Israel has decided to take care of the problem is the question.

Israel can handle hizbullah, iran and syria by themselves?

$8 a gallon gas and an influx of Iranian suicide bombers descending on Iraq in retaliation would not be conduscive to us winning midterm elections.

That's why we have to make sure that Iran has no resources left with which to wage such attacks.

No, I don't believe they can. But there would be ways to broaden the war which would drag us into it and we'll see if that happens.

Are we willing to go to nuclear war to support Israel?

Are you willing to go to war to defend your family?

The Iranians and other Islamic scum are not going to stop with Israel, they have already demonstrated that and have said so explicitly...

Nuke Mecca...

The inflamed Arab passions in the region could cause the Saudi Royal family to be toppled, a geo-political nightmare for us should it ever happen.

Why? Our "alliance" is with the upper levels of the royal family, in hopes that the King can rein in his many princes, each of whom have independent hoards of wealth that are being used to finance terrorism.

If the royal family is overthrown, this can be our cue to sweep in, seize the oilfields, and strip the Saudi princes of their assets. Terrorists would then have to depend on Iran, a country historically not friendly to Arabs, for their money. Under such circumstances, would Iranians still be willing to let Ahmadinejad lead them into suicide?

They may not be bluffing as Syria is the keeper of Saddam's lost WMDs and the Iranians know it. If the conflict escalates to that level expect that Damascus and Tehran will both be anihilated by nuclear weapons and we can hope the Israelis have one bomb saved for Mecca.

Iran has Chemical and Biological WMD. If Hizbollah got top line conventional Iranian arms, there is a possibility that they also got some unconventional ones

If those WMD's get dropped on Israel, Israel goes tactical nuclear on Iran. And the Iranians know that with certainty.

Thank you for the education sorely needed by many, many FReepers who are "shooting from the hip" without the foggiest idea about how intertwined this whole situation is.

Hopefully your efforts will help eliminate at least some of the more asinine commentary!

Sweeping in and siezing the Saudi oilfields is an unrealistic option except in the most dire of circumstances - if it ever comes to that, the global economic system would be thrown into chaos by the resulting increase in the price of oil and the geo-political instability, not a goal responsible nations (including the US) want to see happen.

I kinda wish that FR wouldn't ban or suspend posters like PWWAG, that's the kind of thing DU does with anyone who doesn't toe the ultra-left line. I know he or she was annoying, but IMHO it's better to let that type of people have their misguided say and demonstrate to the rational people of the world just what kind of nutjobs there are running around loose out there. What's really scary is that PWWAG probably votes in every election.

They are deliberately destroying the infrastructure of an area that has become an economic competitor to them.

Oooh, a Rockwellite!

There's an easy disproof of that hypothesis. Occasionally I see products MADE IN ISRAEL. In fact, the Technion tech complex sells us quite a lot of equipment that the consumer never sees, such as functional circuit testers and rocket components.

When was the last time you saw MADE IN SYRIA on anything?

"I promise you that ultimate scenario is being war gamed intensely by American military and Israeli military.

"What is Iran going to do when the US hits it on three fronts (from Afghanistan and Iraq) as well as from the Persian Gulf?"

I fear that while our military might overwhelm Iran, our goverment cowers before the fourth front, the Media.

Where is Patton when we need him?

You are exactly correct. Israel should once again defeat and remove all arabs from their God given land. Deport all the arabs of Gaza, Judea and Samaria to arab countries and then they will have peace.

Don't stop Israel! Soundly defeat and rout the arabs who torment you: whose hands are continually against you. Annihilate them!

If W said those words his ratings would go sky high. Who cares if the lefties foam at the mouth. They can't express their outrage anymore than they do now.

I agree!

If the doves were correct saying nuclear war (at least limited) would waste a land unliveable for gazillion years, what to they say about Hirosima and Nagasaki today?

If Israel were nuclear attacked, what are the prevailing winds? I don't know what the fallout pattern. I know the mid-East Arabs do! Or would they care?
