9 killed in rocket attack on HaifaGAMLA: News and Views from Israel
Attack on north resumes: Rockets fired by Hizbullah terrorists from Lebanon land in Haifa; police say nine killed, dozens injured in strike. Israel TV reports of casualties in city. Nahariya, Kiryat Bialik also targeted; additional Katyushas apparently strike Akko area
A siren was heard across Haifa Sunday after a Katyusha rocket fell in the area. Security forces said at least ten Katyusha rockets fell on the Haifa area.
Police said that nine people have been killed and dozens have been injured.
Police say nine people have been killed at the train depot. The rescue of the injured is being delayed after many people abandoned their vehicles due to rockets, leaving them on the road to the Rambam hospital.
The Katyusha barrage also struck Naharia, Kiryat Bialik (check post), Akko, and Rosh Hanikra.
The simultaneous attack took place shortly after 9 a.m. in the morning. Phone networks in the area have been affected.
Ofir from Haifa said: "I see the train depot downtown, on the train tracks. There were four hits and smoke is rising. Hizbullah apparently aimed for the oil refineries."
Karen from Haifa said: "We heard a rocket explode in the harbor area and then in the port."
Over 700 rockets have been fired since the beginning of fighting on the northern border, and the IDF does not rule out that the rockets may reach further south than Haifa. "Areas south of Haifa will receive an advanced warning in the form of a siren," Home Front Commander Yitzhak Gershon said.

Hizbullah threatens petrochemical installations
By ASSOCIATED PRESS
Hizbullah threatened Sunday to attack petrochemical installations in Israel's third-largest city of Haifa.
In a statement read on its TV station Al-Manar, Hizbullah said its military wing fired rockets on the port city but deliberately avoided hitting the petrochemical installations.
"The Islamic Resistance warns the Zionist of committing any new folly because it (Hizbullah) deliberately avoided the petrochemical installations," said the statement. "But next time, it (Hizbullah) will not spare anything in Haifa and its surroundings."
I don't buy it. They missed, plain and simple.
OPINION: I hope you're right. I view their little press-release as jihad propaganda.
The real question is, "What IS in hizballah's arsenal?"

PM: Attack will have 'far-reaching consequences'
By ASSOCIATED PRESS
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Sunday that there would be "far-reaching consequences" for a rocket attack launched by Lebanese guerillas on the city of Haifa that killed eight people and wounded dozens of others.
"Nothing will deter us," he said at the beginning of his government's weekly Cabinet meeting. "There will be far-reaching consequences in our relations on the northern border and in the area in general."
Olmert also said that Israel's offensive in Lebanon does not intend to harm Lebanese civilians.
Since the fighting began five days ago, 106 Lebanese were killed in Israeli airstrikes, most of them civilians.
"We want to live our lives in peace and in good neighborly relations," he said. "Unfortunately, there are those who misinterpret our wishes for peace in the wrong way. We have to no intention of bending in the face of these threats."
"Our enemies are trying to disrupt the lifestyle in Israel. They will fail," he said.
FOX's Mike Tobin just did a live report and mentioned what they were aiming at but I didn't quite catch what he said (was distracted). Sorry. I'd like to know what he said so hopefully someone will answer.
I don't think it was a bus depot, but a railroad yard facility. Train service has been suspended beyond a point south of Haifa.
TURN ON CNN ------- LIVE IN HAIFA
Hit railway depot, was aiming towards oil refinery, according to CNNi guy on live now...
any more info about the condition of Nasarallah?
YEP! Now say Israel moves into Lebanon directly north of Haifa. That's where the Katushyas are. What kind of anti tank mines and other traps await them? I see a Muslim war psychology here of luring Israel into ambushes and traps
Prayers for all.
any more info about the condition of Nasarallah? ..........
Not yet. My bet is he's alive and well. CNN International is covering the rocketing of Haifa
I say you are thinking out of the box and that's a good thing. I hope the IDF/IAF is too.
CNN--HAIFA
8 dead 6 seriously injured. The K rockets made a lucky hit on a workshop (factory?)
Meir Kahane predicted this 30 years ago.
How right he was.
