if the ground invasion doesn't occur in the next 48 hours, I don't think its happening. you can see the momentum of world and media opinion (not that I care about them mind you, its just an observation) coming out against Israel.

I think they are being heavily prodded at this moment in time.

Soon to be heavier, if certain recent reports are correct.

Let them feel the fire, and let them learn what it is to face self induced genocide.

I think it will be an enlightening experience for them.

We'll see, I think if we should prod too hard, Israel may be on the receiving end of a ballastic missile barrage where for 10 or 15 minutes the world will hold its breath as we await to find out what's in those warheads

"Syria started sending aid, in the form of food and medication, to Lebanon to help its people face the hardships caused by Israel's aggression."

I would be very suspect of anything coming into Lebanon from Syria...probably resupplying Hezbollah.

According to Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) on Sunday, Syria's Health Ministry commenced sending aid consisting of first-aid kits and necessary medications on Saturday as requested by Lebanese Health Minister Mohammad Khalifa, noting that today's shipment will include milk and baby food.

Now, if that's not a red flag. Better check that baby food shipment quickly.

Nikita and his boys, used as basis for their insanity, a belief that Communism enjoyed a mathematical Manifest Destiny, but when it came to getting burned by blue fire, and when it came to the common sense necessary to out-produce an enemy, they proved less than the task.

You might want it right this second, but I personally guarantee you won't get it until certain critical elements fall into place, no way, no how, it simply will not be permitted to happen.

Till then this is all idle speculation, with, most likely, a healthy dose of pre-fight jitters mixed in.

Hurry up and wait.

The 72 hour ultimatum is almost half gone.

TV news: Israel using GAS (wmd) on Lebanon!

I've been saying for years that Israel should carpet bomb the Palestinians with bombs full of Haldol and Thorazine. And while they are at it, carpet bomb Israel with Valium.

He gave the Syrians a 72 hour ultimatum

I was under the impression that this had been denied by the Israeli government.

is that he is prone to escalate the kidnapping of three persons into a global crisis

Okay, I have reservations concerning the "value" of those 3 persons. If they were American soldiers, I would personally move heaven and earth to free them if at all possible, and if that meant evolving the conflict from a local to global affair, so be it.

If the entire world is on edge to the point where this could be taken to a global crisis, then the issue is not truly centered on those 3 soldiers, it it?

The true issue, IMO, is the islamic fanatics in the mideast, and Iran and Syria in particular, along with the nutbar running NK into the ground, being appeased until they have the capability to annihilate a city in their area or elsewhere in the world with the push of a button.

Given the track record of islamic nutjobs and their goals of annihilating Israel, that situation cannot be allowed to come to fruition. To allow them to possess nukes spells certain doom for Israel. MAD is not a consideration of islamic militants. Give them a nuke and Tel Aviv is history, IMO. MAD will not allow us to simply wait them out the same as the USSR. The situations are not comparable, and to believe they are invites disaster, IMO.

If Iran pops a nuke on Tel Aviv, 1 billion muslims, and a hell of a lot of anti semitic Europeans and others across the world, including many leftists here in the U.S., will applaud for Iran, most not openly, but many will be dancing in the streets over the result, even if it means that Tehran will be annihilated.

The islamic nutjobs do not think as you do, nor as the russians or chinese think. Look at their society, look at how it has stagnated for centuries. Yet their society persists. That should raise the alarm in any civilized mind.

"Inalienable Nuclear Rights"

http://www.irna.ir/en/news/view/line-22/0607166920164431.htm

Tehran, July 16, IRNA

Iran-Asefi-Nuclear

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said here Sunday that Iran expects Russia and China to defend its inalienable nuclear rights.

Asefi made the remark while addressing reporters at his weekly press briefing when asked about stance of Moscow and Beijing on Iran's nuclear case.

"Support for Iran's rights, is a support for international organizations and treaties. It is support for the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and international regulations and strategies and not merely support for Iran.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran relies on God, the national support and use of its own potentials."

Asked about remark by Russian President Vladimir Putin in a joint press conference with his US counterpart George W Bush Saturday on Iran's nuclear case, he added, "Putin's remark should be regarded as comprehensive. He announced Russia does not agree to imposition of sanctions against Iran."

In response to a question on threats against Iran to give its hasty response to a package of incentives offered by the world six powers (Group 5+1) to Iran on its nuclear case, the spokesman said, "We believe an inappropriate literature will not be effective.

On June 6, Iran was offered a package of incentives by the UN Security Council's five permanent members -- Russia China, US, UK and France -- plus Germany through EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana in exchange for suspension of uranium enrichment and resumption of talks to settle the dispute over its nuclear program.

"Various committees are working on the proposed package. Iran will give its response by the time the committees reach a conclusion.

"Europe should appreciate Iran for its studying the package with precision.

"The committees will not end their work uncompleted as a result of threats and pressure." 2327/1412

In post # 583, I talked about the smoke I could see rising from the northern slope of the hill which houses the Lebanese village of Maroun er Rass.

I mentioned that I couldn't see any damage to the houses on the southern slope or the hill's crest and had no way of knowing what was happening on the northern side.

Since then, as I said, there was a considerable amount of shooting going on here. Apparently, some terrorists tried crossing the border from the direction of Maroun er Rass.

The hill the village is located on is covered with high, dry, grass and weeds which makes infiltration easier.

I just took a walk around (yes, I know that I am under military orders to stay in my house but I was never too good at obeying orders even when I was in the Army) and saw that much of the hill is now on fire.

It looks like the IDF is trying to clear the grass to make it easier to spot infiltrators. The houses that I can see remain untouched and I can only hope that the same is true on the northern slope."

Per CNN Wolf - suspects the only ones going into Lebanon are those checking on loved ones and journalists. Noticed he didn't mention terrorists.

INTO Gaza from Eygpt?

I was debating whether to type that or not, but my memory isn't that poor...

The other day it was reported that civilians broke a hall in the wall separating Egypt and Gaza and they were pouring INTO Gaza.

I read it three times to make sure...since I agree with you as to why civilians would want to go toward the front lines instead of away.

Also, your way of thinking about those 3 soldiers brings to mind the last 444 days of Jimmy Carter's presidency.

Consider that, if you would.
