I lost my Dad at age 56 to cancer, and my 45th birthday was July 12th. My sister committed suicide last year, when her pain exceded her zeal. I don't post as often to Freerepublic as I used to, and I shy away from alot of prayer requests, because I don't feel called to prayer.

It takes a great deal of faith to deal with and own our mortality, your own or someone elses. Every poster here is going to die some day. The issue is never length of years. The issue is always- how is the world different because of _______ (fill in the blank.)

Your brother is with you and he is completely here, loving life, wanting more. How much more sad if he hated life and gave it up of his own free will. A set of nads is not too high a price to pay for a family who is devoted to you, apart from equipment.

My sister was a Ralph Nader greenie, and yet we agreed on many things, including the value of life. One of her favorite quotes was from John Donne.

No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as any manner of thy friends or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Your brother is a part of you, and you are part of us. Here is my prayer:

Father, Be with this family, through it's hurts and misundersatndings. We cannot know joy, unless we know it's absence, and you, Father, Are with us in joy and in pain, in famine and in plenty. Lord, Please, your healing for this family. May they know You in their midst. Ecc 4: 9-12

Hey, kiddo--!

I'm going to put you on our prayer list, too.

FRiend, please let me know (FReepmail) the outcome of your tests. I'll be waiting.

PS--waiting for the test results is always the hardest part. God bless, FRiend.

Prayers for your brother and your family. My dad is a cancer survivor. The diagnosis is overwhelming, but you can really learn so much about options on the computer. Arm yourself and your brother with knowledge, I will pray for strength and complete restoration.

Prayers said for your brother to The Great Physician. Keep the faith, stay positive and repeat God's Word... No weapon formed against you shall prosper. A merry heart is like medicine.

You are a great sister, your brother knows it; now we all do!!

Unto You, O Lord, we return with thanksgiving, for You are the Great Physician. May Your healing hand rest mightily upon ut's beloved brother, that he might quickly and completely be free from this cancer. Put before him the medical team of Your choosing, graced with wisdom and sound judgment, that they would become part of divine healing.

Sustain this family in the days ahead, Merciful Father, that they might be encouraged and uplifted. Keep them from deep anxiety and distress, for You are Creator and Sustainer. Surround them with the Comfort of Your Presence, for "lo, You are with us always, even unto the end of the age." Matthew 28:20.

In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, may it be thus, O Lord, may it be thus, Amen ...

May God watch over your brother and guide those who care for him. May He give you and your family peace and strength. May He comfort you and restore your brother to health in His service, in Jesus' name.

I remember when my sister, who was in her 40s, called me to say she had been diagnosed with cancer. That was over 8-9 years ago and she's been cancer free since completing her treatment. My prayers are with your brother and family.

Just a quick update. My brother is being transferred M.D. Anderson this Thursday. The doctors said that he will be "well" enough to make the trip.

The doctors have been scanning him for what seems like day and night, and have put him through a battery of tests. Unfortunately, they say the cancer may have spread all the way up to his lungs (they found suspicious "modules"), but they don't want to say for sure; e.g. they want the specialist in M.D. Anderson to confirm. The doctors did say that he was lucky that they caught it now because they say that the cancer appears to have spread aggressively and in one to two months his chances of survival would have very low.

It may not seem like it, but it is good news. They'll take care of him at MD Anderson, very very well. Cancer is all they do - work on, observe, operate on, treat, caretake. They've seen it all and will know exactly what needs to be done.

That really *is* good news. Prayers continuing ...
