C802 missile supplied to Iran by China and upgraded by North Korea
The Iran Brief ^ | 1/12/2000 | none cited

Posted on 07/15/2006 5:20:25 AM PDT by Soliton

12 January 2000 According to the Times (London), North Korea agrees to supply technology and equipment to aid Iran in upgrading the C802 anti-shipping and cruise missiles it purchased from China in the early 1990s and deployed on French and Chinese-built missile boats in the Persian Gulf and in coastal batteries. China has promised the United States several times to stop deliveries of the C802 to Iran, but U.S. intelligence reports last year documented deliveries by China far in excess of what has publicly been reported. The C802s were assembled in Iran under a co-producing agreement signed with Communist China, and use a sophisticated motor supplied by a French manufacturer. The French government denies any knowledge of the sale, and the company, Microturbo, denies any wrongdoing. The latest reports indicate that North Korea is working on an "over-the-horizon" designation system for Iran's arsenal of hundreds of C802s, to increase the chances of a successful hit. —"North Korea upgrades Iranian C802," The Iran Brief, 12 January 2000, in Lexis-Nexis, .

12 January 2000 Iran and China work together to improve the accuracy of a version of the Chinese C802 cruise missile that has a 30-mile range. In the 1990s, Iran ordered 150, 80-mile-range C802s, but the order was frozen under U.S. pressure in 1997; 75 of the C802s were shipped to Iran. —Michael Evans, "Tehran Upgrades Chinese Missile," IAEA Daily Press Review, 12 January 2000; "Iranian-North Korean Cooperation to Develop a Chinese Rocket," Al-Zaman (London), 18 February 2000, p. 3.

The "Axis Of Evil" has always included communist China, even though that has never been spoken.

I bet the Iranians are regreting paying for NK assistance with their missile program. :)

Really, though. If Iranians living in Iran are a smart as some I've encountered over here, you think they'd upgrade their own missiles instead of getting help from some insular society whose technological prowess dates to the early 70s (my guess).

The Axis of Evil should include France, a criminal nation that has supported vicious regimes in Africa (Sudan, Rwanda, CAR, DRCongo, Chad, etc.,) and the Middle East (Hamas, Hizbollah, Syria, Saddam's Iraq, Iran, Libya, etc.,). For French politicians there is no such thing as an evil nation because outlaws make perfect trading partners.

"The "Axis Of Evil" has always included communist China, even though that has never been spoken."

It also includes the UN, who turn a blind eye to this stuff, but work hard to disarm the western world, making it even easier for the Axis of Evil to successfully attack it. The UN is nothing more than a meeting room for the worlds most despicable terrorists, aided by the worlds most despicable Liberal elitists.

Iran may have imported as many as 100 C-801s and eight launchers in 1987-88, and by 1994 it was claimed that Iran had about 200 C-801 missiles as well as the ability to produce the C-801 indigenously [under the designation "Tondar"].
Other reports in 1996 suggest that China was assisting Iran with a new antiship cruise missile -- the "Karus" -- which believed to be based on the C-801 and/or C-802.
In June 1997 Iran tested two Chinese-built C-801 air-launched cruise missiles from an F-4 fighter.

The submarine-launched "Yingji no 8, model 3" anti-submarine missile officially passed the first-phase system acceptance tests early in 1997.
Taiwan sources claim that China made the Yingji no. 8 by modifying the French "Exocet" missile. The hit probability is expected to be higher than the missiles currently used by Chinese forces.
The precise application of the YJ-8 designation remains somewhat obscure, as it is used with reference to both C-801 and C-802 missiles,
and may be the overall designator for the weapon system that fires both types of missiles.

China has promised the United States several times to stop deliveries of the C802 to Iran, but U.S. intelligence reports last year documented deliveries by China far in excess of what has publicly been reported.

And as a reward, we give them "most favored nation" trading status and buy billions of dollars per year of their products so they can continue to deceive us. Makes sense to me......

Do not forget China, Syria, and Venezuela, along with Hamas, and various other terrorist allies. We should embargo China, or else will seriously regret it in the future.

Wonder why most these "Analysts" can't draw a line between the C-802 & Pakistan's arsenal of Harpoons & Exocets(since thw 80s).Pakistan has readily leased Western systems to China to help develop their own stuff in exchange for Chinese nuclear & missile technology.
