Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad boasted that Israel is not powerful enough to take on Iran after warning the Jewish state not to attack regional ally Syria.
"Thanks be to God, despite its criminal and savage nature, the Zionist regime and its supporters in the West do not have the power to look in the same way towards Iran," the ultra-conservative president said in a speech in the provinces.
He was speaking as Israel continued its offensive in Lebanon sparked by the capture Wednesday by Iran- and Syria-backed Hezbollah militiamen of two Israeli soldiers and the killing of eight others.
"Attacks by the Zionist regime against its neighbors, notably Lebanon, Syria, and its threats against other countries in the region are due to the fact that this puppet regime cannot live normally," IRNA quoted Ahmadinejad as saying.
"This situation cannot last, and one day the protectors of the Zionist regime -- the US in particular -- will have to explain themselves and be judged by the conscience of humanity," he added.
His comments came after he warned Israel against conducting any attack against Syria -- the Islamic republic's only ally in the region.
"If Israel commits another act of idiocy and aggresses Syria, this will be the same as an aggression against the entire Islamic world and it will receive a stinging response," he said in a telephone conversation with his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad.

You are inviting the death of hundreds of thousands of americans by a reciprocal strike. People in Iran cannot rise up so easily. Dissent is not tolerated. No organized political force exist on the outside to do damage to this regime.
I believe the best way is tactical. Hezbollah today, Hamas tomorrow, Hasaad next and so on. The dominoes are set. Israel will topple the first one. Al others will fiall in their own good time.

What I dont understand is how Iran, in all likelyhood responsible for this entire crisis, gets off the hook scott free, as usual. Theyre sitting back and laughing at everyone, including the U.N. I see the logic of your progression. However, I think if assad is engaged, he or iranian proxies at that point will use WMD against Israel and damascus will become a slaughterhouse. The horrible thing to consider is whether iran would back down at that point, seems unlikely.

Fox news this moring is reporting that Iranian troops in Lebanon fired Iranian versions of the
Chinese silkworm missle and that is what hit the Israeli and Egyptian ships.
Israel is under an existential threat. The rest of the world with the exception of some, see this as a regional conflict with Israel being the agressor, since they view the proxies (ie Hezbollah, Hamas, etc) engaged against Israel not as proxies doing the bidding for Iran or other states but borne out of the premise espoused by liberals that these are movements of 'Liberation' against an outside occupying force.
Iran is trying to buy some time. Israel is to them a 'sideshow' that can entertain the rest of the world while they persue their nuclear ambitions.
