Israel asks to buy US jet fuel for military aircraft
AFP ^ | July 14, 2006

Posted on 07/14/2006 3:21:42 PM PDT by West Coast Conservative

The Pentagon notified Congress of an Israeli request to purchase up to 210 million dollars in JP-8 aviation jet fuel for its military aircraft.

"The jet fuel will be consumed while the aircraft is in use to keep peace and security in the region," the Pentagon's Defense Security and Cooperation Agency said.

The notice to Congress came two days after Israeli fighter jets attacked targets in Lebanon, including the international airport in Beirut, following the capture of two Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah guerrillas.

The Pentagon said the sale would help "improve the security of a friendly country which has been, and continues to be, an important force for stability and economic progress in the Middle East."

The US Congress has 30 days to act to block the sale; otherwise, it is automatically approved.

I wonder of we have a good solution for the blocked Straits of Hormuz scenario....

Closing the straits of Hormuz would be an act of war and appropriate response would follow, if not from us, others.
At the very least it would backfire on Iran and prompt certain Intl action.

Give it to them for free.
I think I'd at least ask for repayment once Iran falls and there is unlimited access to their oil

Swap for an equivalent amount of 9mm and 5.56. Good stuff, IDI.

Hmmm...just caught it. Pentagon isn't asking permission, they were just telling Congress that Israel asked. D'oh, I'm slow today.

Someone posted to a thread a couple of days ago that Iran tried to block the Straits of Hormuz in 1988, during the Iran-Iraq war, and the US Navy cleared it in two hours.

The opinion is that Iran is incapable of blocking the Straits, and, if it tried, we would prevent them from doing it.

The concern, however, are some kind of missle that Iran has all along the Straits that can sink our ships.

I agree. Give it to them free.

In 1973, I was a Battery Commander in the Illinois Army National Guard. There were three 1/4 tons with radios and trailers for my three Forward Observers down at Camp Lincoln that I was waiting for, but when the Yom Kippur War broke out, they went to Israel to replace losses. I told my troops that they went where they were needed most.

"No one in Congress will try to block such a sale. Whatever Israel wants, Israel gets."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm praying you're right. After all, they are taking out the trash for us so Bush won't get impeached, they should get whatever they ask for.
Israel isn't doing anything for us. It is a matter of national survival for them. They are doing it for themselves. I have no idea what you are talking about re Bush's impeachment.
>You have to realize if war breaks out, life ain't gonna be the same. That's just how it is.<
Rationing cuts down on consumption, my friend. I lived through WWII and know full well what life is like in an all out war. And I agree 100% with you, that IS just how it is.
Obscene oil prices weaken our economy and line the pockets of the oligarghy. They rob from you and me and that guy behind the tree.
I wish you success in your new venture, but please - be real.
Old habits die hard. I do insist upon living in the old and reasonable world we used to have. You are absolutely correct.
If you are intrigued with Truth, read, "The Planned Destruction of America", by Dr. James W. Wardner. If you want to know how things were handled in WWII, ask your father, or maybe even your grandfather.
It only took 6 days the last time!
I agree with kabar.
The Democratic politicians (marxist-socialists and the plantation owners) have been trying to impeach Bush since before he was elected.
They have failed, over and over. Israel has nothing to do with this. It is the fact he has done nothing impeachable.
On the internet, 'inflection' is a largely missing element.
I think he meant it in the "Failure is not an option" type of voice. Demarcation (+masc. -sarc. =vol.)
"Kuwait told the US way back in 2003 that if we do topple Saddam that our military would be guaranteed free gas, an agreement that is still in place."
President Bush had made inroads with the Saudis for cooperation in eliminating the terrorist regimes plaguing the world.
When a management change for Port Shipping,Container handling, storage facilities in limited US ports appeared, all the POWERS of the US GOVT were notified, given appraisals, and they voted for, or just stayed out of the way of the recommendation of that committee.
The new mgmt. package included on-time,on-budget commmitments, plenty of experience,inspection and security procedures, and security cooperation that exceeded the requirements of the committee.
All at a competitive price.
The MSM saw another opportunity to ride the watergate wave of fame/fortune on the lawn of the White House.
So, according to the Dems, we killed the Dubai deal because they might invade the US and we couldn't trust them. We had to keep foreigners out, buy U.S., drive a FORD, not a TOYOTA.
On the same hand they want an open policy with Russia, Red China, North Vietnam, the annexing of South Vietnam, Libya, Syria, etc.
Kuwait is giving us free gas. This was not brought up during the Dubai deal.
Betchtel took over a contract formerly run by Halliburton.
(or vice versa).
I thought only Halliburton was the evil world power. Now that Betchtel has it, will the same functions be considered 'good'?
We needed all the cooperation we could get in this war.
The MSM has tried to de-masculate the President.
I want my President going to meetings with other nations , his head held high, respect and fear in the throats of those others.
The Dems and MSM's want your President to speak on the world stage nude, with his privates held in their clutches, and the audience armed with knives.
When I think of the cost, in lives as well as money, that the politicians, (both sides), the MSM, and the Libs have caused I just want to beat the living hell out of the next Lib I see, and ask them, "Now, is it OK if I keep doing this?"
"The Israelie's asked to buy it, and I think they should pay for it like any other customer. "
Actually, our tankers have been supplying fuel to the IDF at the choice of our Military leadership in support of the War, and this is just the announcement to keep everything above board. Something our military shouldn't have to do, but does to document it's actions.
Pay for it they have. Pay for it they will. But surely you understand the emotion behind 'let em have it for free'.
Thanks for posting this article.
But everyone is missing the point.
We are supplying them with JP-8.
...(secret info)
...(none of your business)
...(loose lips- you die, she dies, he dies, everybody dies.)
An additive in JP-8 hides the exhaust signature (contrails).
We are not just giving them gas, we are giving them 'the good stuff'.
Party Hardy, IDF!!!
JP-8. Only for a selected range of aircraft.
