WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic Rep. John Murtha's Republican opponent raised thousands of dollars online in June, but still significantly trailed the 10-term incumbent in fundraising.
Murtha, a decorated Vietnam War veteran from western Pennsylvania who has become the face of the movement opposing the Iraq war, raised $621,367 in the quarter that ended June 30, according to his Federal Election Commission filing.
His opponent, Washington County commissioner Diana Irey, raised $229,846, according to her campaign.
Murtha has $1.6 million in cash, while Irey has $159,138 in cash.
Irey, who has criticized Murtha's stance on the Iraq war, raised more than $117,000 in cash online in June, said Bill Pascoe, a campaign spokesman.

Almost a quarter million grass-root dollars over the course of maybe six weeks. Tell me Diana Irey hasn't tapped into some significant anti-Murtha sentiment.

That's great Coop. I'll send another small donation today.
I am still planning on freeping Murtha Aug. 12 here in Tennessee. I kinda dropped the ball the past few days because I had some deadlines to deal with, plus I can't stay off the threads about Israel/Lebanon.
I'll get back on the freep planning tonight (and I'll keep you informed). I've heard from a few Tennessee freepers who want to attend.

Thank you girlangler for what you and others are doing for Diana Irey in Tennessee. :-)

Excellent news. And the veterans effort against Murtha is still gearing up.
It's time to show the leftists that smearing the troops is no longer a cost-free form of entertainment. Knocking Murtha out of Congress would do more to accomplish that than anything else I can think of this election cycle.

I agree with you completely. Speaking of the veterans' efforts, now's a good time to plug
Boot Murtha and

You were speaking of grass-roots activism on another thread. I thought this thread was a perfect example of that!
