Hispanics are feeling more discriminated against, and to a large extent hold the Republican Party responsible for what they perceive to be the negative consequences of the immigration debate, according to a survey released today by the Washington, D.C.-based Pew Hispanic Center.
More than half of the 2,000 Hispanics surveyed for the report said they saw in increase in discrimination as a result of the policy debate, and 75 percent said the debate will prompt many more Hispanics to vote in November.
Although party affiliation among Latino registered voters has not changed significantly over the past two years, the share of these voters who believe the Republican party has the best position on immigration dropped from 25 to 16 percent in that time. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party -- the traditional party of Hispanic voters -- showed no significant gains among Hispanics and by some measures has lost support.
The survey was conducted by telephone from June 5 to July 3, 2006. The complete survey is available on the Pew Hispanic Center website, www.pewhispanic.org. The Pew Hispanic Center is a nonpartisan research organization.
And it was all so unnecessary. Nice going, Rove. You really opened Pandoras Box.
I suppose that "in your face" walkout and temper tantrum last May had nothing to do with it.
Obviously the Republicans didn't pander enough < /S >
Maybe if they all wave Mexican flags, impede traffic, demand that white people buy them houses, ignore their drug and crime statistics, provide free medical care, disrupt commerce and stage a rally and force everyone to listen to their point of view; then everything will be better...
No, but I can see how those wearing border blinkers might feel that way.
If hispanics who are American citizens feel slighted or discriminated against, it is their own fault. They are not listening to the debate, or are listening to it through the prism of the Liberal Media.
I don't know anybody on the conservative side who is against hispanics.
They are unanimously against ILLEGAL HISPANICS, or any other ILLEGAL immigrant, be it Czech, Fijian, French, whatever.
Is it the fault of the Republican leadership for letting the Liberals paint the conservatives in that fashion? Yes, perhaps.
But if they think pandering to hispanics is going to get more votes, they are delusional. Isn't going to happen. Illegal hispanics are NOT Cubans by nature.
don't buy this. the leftist rabble rousers are stirring this up.
They are unanimously against ILLEGAL HISPANICS, or any other ILLEGAL immigrant, be it Czech, Fijian, French, whatever.

Yes. But the real core of the problem lies in Washington, DC. They created this problem by deliberately ignoring the rising tide of criminal entry into our country. Now it is up to them to fix it -- and if the sanctimonious, arrogant elitists in Washington think this is going to go away, they are in for a major shock. Sadly we have a resident in the White House that is throwing gasoline on the fire, encouraging the liberal element to support these criminals JUST FOR THEIR VOTES.
Ugly.
The only people framing it as a racial issue are liberals.
What do they care only LEGAL immigrants can vote? I think it is biogoted to automatically assumed that hispanics (a made up category of otherwise white people) would be concerned about the plight of illegals who can only hurt them by competing for jobs and causing them to pay more in taxes. Hispanic people are largely law abiding conservative people and thinking they are automatically sympathetic to illegals is much like thinking people from India are best suited to own 7-11s.
"I suppose that "in your face" walkout and temper tantrum last May had nothing to do with it."
Yep.
And the "Gringo go home" signs and the strike on the communist May Day and..oh what's the use?
"The only people framing it as a racial issue are liberals."
No, Bush is and so is Rove.
Demoncrats are VERY quiet on this issue ... they're playing this one right. THey're letting the GOP look like racists.
No, but I can see how those wearing border blinkers might feel that way.
What's a border blinker?
Hey! In the interest of equal employment opportunity and non-discrimination any qualified Hispanics that are registered Republicans are welcome to clean my house and cut my grass. Whenever my American maid and gardener no longer want to do those jobs, or ask for a raise, or want off to nurse a sick child, or expect July 4 to be a holiday.
