Vince Vaughn, Sean Penn Star in Richard Clarke Movie

Today we get word that Vince Vaughn will apparently be appearing - along with Sean Penn - in former anti-terrorism czar Richard Clarke's anti-Bush hit job, "Against All Enemies," to be produced by Sony and directed by Paul Haggis ("Crash").

Forgive us, of course, for lacking "nuance" in our referring to the film as an "anti-Bush hit job." We know the film's actually going to be a complex, probing look at the serious issues behind global terrorism . . . oh, please. We all know why this film is getting made. Here's the report from Dark Horizons:

"'Crash helmer Paul Haggis is lining up Vince Vaughn ['Wedding Crashers,' 'The Break-Up'] to star in Sony Pictures' political drama 'Against All Enemies' reports the trades. Based on Richard Clarke's inside-Washington memoir, the book chronicles how the Bush administration handled the al-Qaida threat both before and after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

"Sean Penn has been widely reported to be on board to play Clarke. Vaughn is being talked about to fill the role of [the late FBI counter-terrorism agent John O'Neill]. Haggis is supervising screenwriter James Vanderbilt who's penning the second draft of the screenplay."

In case you missed that, Sean Penn will be playing "whistle-blower" Richard Clarke, and Penn will therefore finally have his big chance to criticize the Bush administration on-screen. We can't wait.

We're a little disappointed, incidentally, that Mr. Vaughn is participating in this project, given that he's widely rumored to be one of the few conservatives among Hollywood's top stars.

These people don't mind representing discredited liars, I'll give them that. Me, I'd be embarrassed.

There's your Oscar award winner for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, and/or Best Supporting Actor right there. Bet on it.

I'm not saying it's going to be any good - just that Hollywood loves to wallow in it's own crapulence.

I am going to wait for Hollywood's remake of "The Wall" staring Meryl Streep as Jamie Gorelick.

You've got to be kidding. If Vince Vaughn would stop sucking on a bong for 5 minutes he'd realize the majority of his audience is Middle Americans who don't hate their country.

Dopey's listening to his Hollywood pals too much. Idiot.

Sean Penn to play Clarke,

Vaughn to fill the role of John O'Neill,

...and Shirley Booth, as the Beaver!

Well, I will go out on a limb and say that I don't think this is going to be a straight Bush-hit piece.

Directed by the guy who directed "Crash". That was an unusual flick...not your usual liberal commie movie.

Pleased to hear that Vaughn may be a conservative. I wondered if he was when I watched "The Break Up" which he apparently helped write. That was a pretty good character movie IMO.

Richard Simmons' whole life and career has prepared him for this one role- he'd be the perfect Richard Clarke.

Hollywood is so stupid... and cruel, they probably won't even audition him.

They're making a movie about Richard Clarke? "Peewee's Big Adventure" has already been done.

Isn't Richard Clarke the naked gay guy from Survivor that's in jail now on tax evasion charges?

The RNC really, really should sue for Federal Campaign dollars equivalent to all these lamestream media & Hollywood 'in kind' donations to the DNC.

PS: Clarke may, with royalties, finally be able to afford his long needed orthodonture.

When are they gonna make a movie about how the 'toon handled terrorism?

Oh, that's right. There would be nothing to film.
