Commentary: War on Iran Has Begun
The New York Sun ^ | July 13, 2006 | DAVID TWERSKY

Just last Friday, Iranian President Ahmadinejad warned that Israel's return to Gaza could lead to an "explosion" in the Islamic world that would target Israel and its supporters in the West.

"They should not let things reach a point where an explosion occurs in the Islamic world," ...

"If an explosion occurs, then it won't be limited to geographical boundaries. It will also burn all those who created [Israel] over the past 60 years," he said, implicitly referring to America and other Western nations who support Israel.

Years from now, the kidnapping of Corporal Gilad Shalit will be regarded like the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand.

Against the backdrop of Kassam rocket fire on Israelis living within range of the Gaza Strip, it was the fate of Corporal Shalit that triggered the Israeli return to Gaza, which in turn brought the Hezbollah forces into the game.

Israel is fighting two Iranian proxies on two fronts.

It may, or may not, open a third front against a third Iranian proxy, Syria.

It is from the Syrian capital that Khaled Meshaal, the exiled leader of Hamas, has been laying down Palestinian Arab negotiating conditions.

Why listen to Mr. Meshaal? ...

Even more loyal to Tehran is the Hezbollah leader, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, whose forces yesterday kidnapped two more Israeli soldiers, opening up the second front.

Sheik Nasrallah is warning Israelis that they must not think Lebanon is unprotected as it was in 1981 and 1982 when Israeli forces came pouring across the border to silence Palestinian Arab guns.

Sheik Nasrallah's men are the recipients of tens of thousands of rockets — longer range and presumably more deadly than their roughly engineered younger Kassam cousins — that put central Israel in their range.

Or we could dialogue if you wish. You have a lot of Scripture passages there. Iran could formally attack Israel next week...time will tell...but will they? likely? No. It serves them no purpose and works against their efforts to obtain nukes.

Have you read Daniel? It amazes me how the first half of Daniel lines up with what has just happened (fall of Iraq) what looks probable after we pull-out - Persia (Iran) and Medea (Iraq) allying more and tipping the balance of power in their favor and then some. Have you read some of Daniel 8-9? What do you think about it? Different take?

And then there is this:

And this shall be the plague with which the LORD will smite all the peoples that wage war against Jerusalem: their flesh shall rot while they are still on their feet, their eyes shall rot in their sockets, and their tongues shall rot in their mouths. And on that day a great panic from the LORD shall fall on them, so that each will lay hold on the hand of his fellow, and the hand of the one will be raised against the hand of the other.

Zechariah 14: 12-13

It's doubtful that Hezbollah has sufficient forces and materiel to prevail against the IDF. The IDF has already cut off air supplies, bombing the airport, and land support, closing, at least partially, the Damascus highway.

Hope the IDF recaptures ceded territory and keeps it and ignores any UN petitions to do otherwise.

What's the current opinion in Europe, Sierra?

Sheik Nasrallah is warning Israelis that they must not think Lebanon is unprotected as it was in 1981 and 1982 ...

I'm concerned that Saddam's WMD that were secreted out of the country are going to be used on Israel should they attack Syria.

I hope I'm fretting for nothing.

Let's hope this all shakes out in a week and God Bless our troops and keep them safe.

I wish I could call for a separation of Church and "state" in our forum.

For chrissakes....why do you ladies and gentlemen always have to hijack a thread with your bible claims?

It's very distracting.

Start your own thread about how you all think prophecies are being proven, etc..

My intent is not to insult anybody's belief system, but please be considerate?

Ahh. In that case..definitely disagree alot with that author's take. Time will tell with this situation in mideast, to me the weeks timeframe has only recently begun (Israel 1948-9) and still a ways to go, alot to happen ie Daniel 8.

I hope Israel can entertain us with another dazzling display of military superiority by bringing about a cease fire or surrender.

Give us another 20 years of harmless sabre rattling rhetoric.

This all was inevitable. Better now before Iran goes nuclear.

I wonder if Saddam's WMDs that the Russians helped smuggle out of Iraq to Syria will now be used ?

Probably does get a bit heavy. I could use the private reply feature sometimes on breaking news type threads. I figured a thread titled "commentary on" would be okay for it.
