US: Israel Must Do Whatever Necessary to Protect Itself
Arutz Sheva - IsraelNationalnews ^ | 7/12/6

Posted on 07/12/2006 8:15:33 AM PDT by SmithL

The Bush administration said Wednesday afternoon that “Israel must do whatever necessary to protect itself.”

The terse response came in the wake of an IDF incursion into south Lebanon following multiple attacks by Hizbullah terrorists on northern Israeli communities and soldiers. Two soldiers were kidnapped and three were killed in the early morning attacks.

“show restraint and a cool head, not permit the destruction of a civilian infrastructure in Lebanon and refrain from the disproportionate use of force.”

Yelling and sending them to their room is OK I presume. Or maybe just yelling. Forget yelling too. Wag a finger very vigorously and that's it.

Strike a nerve maybe? For one thing, Brad Stine is a Christian, not a fanatic that blows up anything. And, your comment makes no sense. That quote had nothing to do wi th Islamo-fascist terrorists. It was asking which is more irrational, someone who believes in a God they can't see, or someone who is offended by a God they don't believe in. Very simple question. Logically, the person who is offended by something they don't believe in is more irrational. And Harvard scholars aren't qualify to JUDGE either, because NO ONE is supposed to JUDGE. But in any case I don't have to have a Harvard degree to be qualified to understand and comprehend history and theology and other ideological issues. But if degrees are required I would thnk my BS in History and BS in Political Science from A&M would do. Working on my Masters in History while working so maybe then I'll be "qualified".

My quoting of him was more a retorical question. Since it's atheists, the extreme minoriyy in the U.S., who keep trying to subjugate Christians, the clear majority in this country, and force Christian beliefs and themes and symbols totally out of government and schools and society in general, trying to rewrite the founders intent for the 1st Amendment, made clear in the Federalist Papers and their papers and Congressional records and other historical documents.

A high school student, for example, wanting to credit God and Christ for her direction that allowed her to graduate top of her class is not government establishment of religion, or imposing it on anyone else there. She made the choice to say that, and denying her that right is a violation of her 1st Amendment right to free speech and freedome of expression of religion. The U.S. Capitol building served as a Christian church meeting place for decades for Pete's sake, John Q. Adams and many others including the founders attended church services IN the capitol building, so they clearly didn't care much for seperation of church and state. Which appears no where in the Constitution or Bill of Rights.

But anyway, your comment just doesn't make any sense to me. Terrorists aren't irrational, they're fanatical murderers and should be killed. Atheists are irration for demanding that the thing that made this country possible as a free constitutional Republic, be removed from all parts of the government. THAT'S irrational. Maybe you can clarify? Thanks. :)

"Who's more irrational? The guy who believes in a God he can't see? Or the guy who is offended by a God he doesn't believe in?" Brad Stine

With a 95% Christian population in Lebanon, it would be very likely that a democratically elected government in Lebanon would be friendly to Israel.

Unfortunately Lebanon is less than 40% Christian. They're not going to kick the Muslims out.

Yes he is. I love anyone who can make a strong pointed political point, and be clean, and who is a Christian and very funny at the same time. That's talent.

I'm enthused about the US public statement in regard to Israel's military actions. 'Israel must do what's needed to protect herself' -- well, I paraphrased some, but we said Israel MUST do what's needed. That's a big deal. Hamas recently boasted that they had WMD's, chemical/biological weapons, and wouldn't think twice about using them against Israel -- so it's time to crush them, in fact, 'disarm Hezbollah', before they load mustard gas or ebola on those rockets.

I'd think we've quietly reminded Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, and Iran that US subs and warships with cruise missiles and nukes are prowling in the vicinity. And all those US troops in Iraq, how long would it take to move a battalion or two to Lebanon? Like it or not, Iraq is a US base for the region and we don't blab everything to the NYTimes.

Well, where do you get that from? Because an Orthodox Lebanese Priest who came and spoke to my wife's class last year in Houston, said very clearly that over 90% of the Lebanese people are Orthodix Christian, and the Syrian puppet government keeps them in line allowing Hezbola and Hamas to opperate there. And the Lebanese man that was assassinated by the terrorists, at the urging of Syria, was supported by a massive majority of the Lebanese people and the front runner to be the PM when Syria was gone, and he was very outspoken with his support for Israel and the United States and was strongly opposed to Syria and the terrorist organizations that had been using Lebanon to attack Israel from. I don't think he would have that wrong since he's both Lebanese and involved in the democratic movement there.

I think mustard, sarin and possibly a. bacillus are already loaded and ready to lob. I think Israel needs to detonate one or five big-a$$ EMPs today, get the party started already.

There was a similar statement when the "Palestinians" invaded, killed two, and abducted Shalit.

The "restraint" request from Rice followed a couple of days later.

The "restraint" request from the US will come sooner or later depending on what sort of action Israel takes.

If Israel's action is insignificant, Israel signals it is ready for suicide.

If the action is deadly and serious, Rice will ask for "restraint" within 12 hours of a tearjerker photo of an Arab child victim appearing on the front of the Times.

You could find a number of sources, most putting Christians in the 35% to 40% range. I usually go to the CIA Factbook for stats like that. Their numbers

Muslim 59.7% (Shi'a, Sunni, Druze, Isma'ilite, Alawite or Nusayri)

Christian 39% (Maronite Catholic, Greek Orthodox, Melkite Catholic, Armenian Orthodox, Syrian Catholic, Armenian Catholic, Syrian Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Chaldean, Assyrian, Copt, Protestant)

other 1.3%

note: 17 religious sects recognized

There's no question Lebanon would be a better place without Syria, and likely far more pro-US and pro-Israel. When in existance, the Christian militias were allies of Israel.

We've been soft on Iran and Syria, now the chickens come home to roost. I know I saw an article within the last couple of weeks that Rice had convinced GWB to soften his demands on Iran. What a disaster.

You can blame our MSM for much of that. They've successfully turned a great deal of Americans against the Iraq efforts, making Pres. Bush and co. much more reticent to go into other places, like Iran. How disgraceful

I wish American officials would call on Palestinians to use restraint...

I agree. I wish our govt would stope treating the "palestinians" like children who must be handled gently and who can't be held responsible for their actions. It must be wearying for the Israelis to be the only adults in the regions.

I mostly agree with you, but if Syrian tanks came across the Israeli/Lebanon border the President would probably make such a statement. It's the soldier here, bus full of children there that is beneath his notice.

This was an invasion over a recognized international border that killed seven soldiers and two were kidnapped. While civilian targets were being rocketed.

Maybe it was on a "small" scale, but it was an invasion.

I had to read a Puerto Rican Newspaper yesterday to find out that the Islamics in Sudan opened fire on a group of young men for watching World Cup soccer (a crime).

It was reported here on FR.
