CHATTANOOGA - The FBI will look into an online video that shows two men shooting a Quran with a military rifle and then leaving the bullet-riddled holy book at a Chattanooga mosque, an agent said Monday.
FBI agent Tim Burke said the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations asked the Justice Department to investigate the incident. He said no one from the local Muslim community had complained.
Justice Department spokesman Eric Holland said the request would be reviewed carefully.
Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the Islamic group, said the video may have been recorded in Chattanooga a year ago.
The video titled "kill the koran" was posted on MySpace.com last month, Hooper said. It could still be seen on the Web site Monday.
Abdul Raheem Kabah, who Hooper identified as the imam, or prayer leader, of the Chattanooga mosque, did not return telephone messages Monday seeking comment.
A man on the Web site identifies himself as "mully88" and claims to live in Chattanooga. The author's profile lists as heroes "anybody that has killed a muslim or at least tried to kill a muslim." The site also contains slurs against Hispanics and blacks.
I don't know of any Christian or Jew (and I'll bet you don't either), who would be so crazily upset about a bible being treated this way. Christians, Jews, and every other religion that is based on love, carry their faith in their hearts. I think we are far more fortunate than these raving lunatics. :0)
Yes, but desecrating a Bible will be considered "free speech."
As I opined on this subject elsewhere, this was a waste of good ammunition.
Personally, I would (and I've a mind to do it someday) p*ss on it (although this might be grounds for indecent exposure, so I might consider burning it instead) in broad daylight, at high noon, in front of the Moosk, and challenge any rag head to come out and "dance" with this 62 year old vet, if I offend them.
NOT!!!! and I challenge you or anyone to show me a Statute, (State or Fed) which does.
The video which purports to have a person list his heroes as someone who has or wants to kill a moozie, MIGHT (and even then it would be a stretch) be considered hate speech, however, as this person himself is apparently not advocating same, it would be nearly impossible to prosecute.
Simply a waste of time and yet another example of PC run amok and how we kowtow to these dirty, rotten, low-life, scum, bastards who want to destroy us from within.
Which copy of the Bible would you object to having shot?
I'd shoot some the the new modern versions my own darn self.
"Waste of good ammunition"?
OK then, use Wolf or Silver Bear. Feel good because you are putting holes in a piece of crap with ammo that is crap.
Break even if you ask me.
I wonder how many hate crimes could be ascribed to desecrating the Christian Bible. Is the FBI interested in following up on those?
Probably the NYT at work. They're positively giddy over their recent sucesses at subversion and sedition.
Do what you wish to a Christian Bible. That is inbounds. Hell, it's commendable. Trash the koran or the old testament and you'll do ten years in the federal joint for a hate crime.
