I'm still looking for a large, big button cell phone for my parents though!

I'll be one of those people. I love playing with new tech stuff, and there's no reason to think that's going to change with increasing age. I'm already quite a bit older than most store salesbeings, and I frequently end up showing them how their products work.

My 83 year-old dad is glued to CNBC and one financial website all day.
It took a lot of work to get him to even that point.

I actually touched an I pod about three weeks ago.

Sometimes, you have to laugh
The Computer Swallowed Grandma (Oh Help!)
The computer swallowed Grandma.
Yes, honestly it's true.
She pressed 'control' and 'enter"
And disappeared from view.
It devoured her completely;
The thought just makes me squirm.
She must have caught a virus
Or been eaten by a worm.
I've searched through the recycle bin
And files of every kind;
I've even used the internet,
But nothing could I find.
In desperation, I "Asked Jeeves"
My searches to refine.
The reply from him was negative
Not a thing was found online.
So, if inside your inbox
My Grandma you should see,
Please 'copy' and 'paste' her quickly
And send her back to me.

I have no use at all for a digital assistant or an I Pod but would sure like a cell phone that I cculd hear when I was running a jack hammer or similar that wouldn't do anything but take and send voice and receive and have a screen that I didn't scratch up so bad that I have to get a new phone every 6 months.

First, go to Staples and buy them an Easy Button.
"That was easy."

I'm dragging my mom into the new world of technology. For Mother's Day I bought her a new Dell computer with the works. I recently bought myself a Treo and I hope to get her comfortable with that concept next. I think it's vital for older folks to move forward and feel comfortable with the changes in technology. It's good exercise for their brains. Use it or lose it!

Even though I worked at a plant that made computers in the early 80s, I didn't actually go online until around 2000. Now, God Help Me, I can't get off!

I'm still looking for a large, big button cell phone for my parents though! I said the exact same thing! We could make a killing, what with all the "boomers" coming "of age," couldn't we?

I'm only 56 but I CANNOT figure out my d%*& cellphone. I can make calls and receive them, even use the DC but if I try to add contacts, I endup deleting stuff. *sigh* Hubby was "helping" by getting me one. I guess at my young age, I'm already a curmudgeon. I told him the housephone rings everytime that I go in the bathroom. Now TWO of them will!

I only WISH my parents were Luddites. They know just enough to be dangerous . . . 'cause they know AOL.
And they expect me to support it.

I'm in the 50-64 group, and have been a heavy computer user for 39 years, but rejected the 'PC' for it's first few years, as I saw it as a feckless toy. That opinion changed when we purchased some 386s to replace our worn out terminals. I still don't own an Ipod, and likely never will, since I just don't have the time to make use of one; digital cams are great though.

Ipod, no. Cable & satellite, no (well one of the big ten foot C/KU jobs but idle). Cell phone, only the company phone and only some of the time. HDTV, not yet. DVD player, yes but no recorder to record off air. 5.1 surround for above, yes. Portable DVD, one, 7". VCRs, a few, all broken in some way. "Old" 8mm handy cam at 1 Y/O grandson's always. "Old" 3.2 Mp digital cam same place.
Computer(s), many, for maybe 25 years now. Presently using a modern laptop, first I have had in a decade that I did not build myself. Faxes, 2 at my office, one collecting dust at home in the garage. Bifocals, one pr strong but not strong enough. Hair, very thin, grows long where it remains and only slightly grey. Beard, sometimes shaggy and way too grey. Stoop, some. Gait, limp. Back, hurts all the time. Hips, hurt worse. Tooth count, 26, that is 13 each top and bottom, real, no gaps, four have fillings, no crowns. Limbs and other appendages, one complete set, functional.
