"Is this Shaughnessey's one-man vendetta against the Sunshine State, or is it reflective of an MSM culture that sneers at the sunbelt?"
My money is on the latter. Probably still peeved about Florida 2000.

Perhaps its part of the MSM/Democrat bitterness over Gore losing FL even after multiple recounts.

Detroit, which he dubbed a 'real city' because "you can get the New York Times here Hmmmmm? Awfully low threshold.

I have only been to Florida one time but I thought Jacksonville was the best town out of all the ones that i vistied.. that includes, Fort Myers, Orlando, Miami, Vero Beach(I believe that was the name of the town) and Daytona... To me Jacksonville was the best... that was back like in 1994 or so... not sure what its like now.

He must have taken a wrong turn and ended up in
Yeehaw Junction, just a road-apple's throw from Holopaw.

As I wrote about here, back in January, appearing on ESPN's 'Rome is Burning', he called Jacksonville a 'yahoo town,' comparing it unfavorably with Detroit, which he dubbed a 'real city' because "you can get the New York Times here."Oh barf! Another Kerry voter, for sure.
We see 'ol curly-top Dan Shaughnessey at most Red Sox games at Fenway, but I'm not a regular reader of his Boston Globe columns. The few columns I have read, he's seems to be cranky... always complaining about something.
I'll alert my Red Sox fan FRiends to your thread for commentary about Shaughnessey. Thanks again for the ping and for your excellent work at NewsBusters! :o)

Surely the sportswriter meant in was a "Google town". Not a Yahoo town.

Around these parts he's known as the CHB (Curly-Haired Boy). He's both smug and condescending, and those are two of his better qualities. But he fits in perfectly with the bow-tied bum-kissers at the Globe. They went to better (wealthier) schools than you and spend their lives reminding you of it, even if they can't make a free throw into a five foot net.
