"According to The Observer and the New York Times..."
Yet another effort by the NYT to stir trouble in our foreign affairs by releasing classified and/or false information.

"According to The Observer and the New York Times, American troops in Germany - and the billions of dollars in goods and services they consume locally - will be moved further east to the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Poland and the Baltic states"
Millions of us veterans are especially amazed at how Reagan changed our world.

This has to be reported properly:
"Americans RETREAT from Europe!
Bowing to pressure from democrats GWBush withdrew troops from Europe. Despite denials from the Administrations, confidential sources from inside the WH inteligence stated 'the whole post WWII occupation of europe has been a disaster.' "

Why do we need bases in Germany or Eastern Europe anyway?
They probably costs a ton of money and provide no real benefit.

Germany proved to be an unreliable ally. Eastern europe jumped in to help with the heavy lifting in iraq. Pay back time.

They probably costs a ton of money and provide no real benefit Bases in eastern europe allow the US and NATO to project power in the region as needed. Without the bases, that would be difficult or impossible.

Closing US bases has been a LONG TIME goal. That the NYSlimes seeks to cause grief over this is typical.

"project power"?
We can project power by having USS Ronald Reagan circle Europe and we could save billions/year.
