Newcomers to Hell's Kitchen, who pay top dollar to live in the hot neighborhood, are having a devil of a time dealing with a resurgence in some of the area's longtime inhabitants - prostitutes.
The in-your-face, scantily clad night crawlers, who for years discreetly plied their wares from pimp-owned cars, are back to their pre-Giuliani days of streetwalking, traffic-stopping parades in front of flesh-hungry motorists, according to residents and community leaders.
The Post recently spotted about a dozen of the hard-working, high-heeled hookers strutting up and down West 47th and 48th streets between Ninth and 11th avenues - not far from cops posted at the Lincoln Tunnel to thwart potential terrorist attacks.
Several shocked newcomers to the area - including some young families dishing out up to $3,000 a month in rent - said realtors had assured them that the neighborhood was "up and coming."

My Irish ancestors lived in Hell's Kitchen for nearly 100 years, I had hoped to go there this summer to see if the old tenements where they lived were still standing. Too bad Bloomberg is slacking on what Guliani had fixed.

I didn't hear Giuliani pass the buck on NYC crime to the rest of the country for their gun laws.
Yeah, let's just go ahead a degrade society for the sake of being too lazy and irresponsible to have decent standards.
Bloomberg squandered billions and now the subways are filled with homeless psychos...

Homeless Man Charged In Subway Attack
July 08, 2006
A homeless man has been charged with slashing another homeless man on a subway train.
Police say 41-year-old Randy Johns slashed a 46-year-old man onboard an uptown 2 train Friday afternoon.
Police say the two men got into an argument, then Johns slashed his victim across the right side of his face and then fled.
Police arrested Johns at the 14th Street and 6th Avenue subway station a little later.
The victim was treated and released from St. Vincent's.
Johns also faces charges of criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Meanwhile, the man charged with attacking a postal worker in a Manhattan subway station has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric examination.
Tareyton Williams, 33, was arrested a couple hours after the attack after he allegedly punched someone a few blocks away. He now faces attempted murder, robbery and weapons charges in connection with the attack.
Police say Williams grabbed two portable power saws from a work site Thursday in the Cathedral Parkway station and attacked Michael Steinberg. Steinberg says he thought Williams was trying to cut through him. Steinberg suffered punctures to his chest and lungs, but is expected to recover.
The attack comes just weeks after a Boston man was charged with stabbing four people over a 13-hour span in the subway and theater district. Kenny Alexis is charged with four counts of attempted murder. Three of the victims were tourists.

Nearly every PO shot on the job or civilian shot in a robbery or drive-by in NYC was shot with a gun purchased in states where certain gun shop owners sell in bulk to folks with no local creds knowing full well that these weapons are intended for criminal use.
Long-time fan of the Delta Grill. Used to go there weekly. But, try Mara's Homemade in the East Village of Oddfellow's over in -- gasp -- Hoboken. They're better.
I spent nearly every Saturday afternoon my senior year in highschool on that block, on "Music Row."
Manny's, "Smash," "We Buy," Stuyvesant, the list of music stores goes on...

It's not being lazy, it's being realistic. They don't call it the worlds oldest profession for nothing. Not all people can take a private plane down to the Dominican Republic to enjoy the prostitutes down there.
I agree. The city I live in has it legalized and you don't see them streetwalking. Those who seek it can find it. Sex offenders can get their rocks off easily without going after decent womenfolk who don't want their attention.
This is the world's oldest profession and it's not going away.
All that stuff is actually on the east side of Broadway... I lived about 40 yards west of Broadway.
Must.......resist......
Never liked the Great Jones Cafe?
Just proves what a powerhouse leader Guiliani would make against the WOT.
Interesting headline - I though 'Hooker Hell' might be about stds, the inherent dangers of the lifestyle, or the vacant shells of a life that such work creates. But nope, it's about whores finding a place to live.
Those days are a bit fuzzy for me, it's been a while. I just meant W. 48th St...
Those were also the days when Brew Burger had an all you can drink beer w/ a burger special.
It's been a while.
