July 25, 2004: John Kerry throws the ball like a girl at Fenway

Posted on 07/09/2006 9:33:31 PM PDT by doug from upland

DESCRIBED BY JONATHON LAST of THE WEEKLY STANDARD:

FOR AS LONG as politicians have been throwing out first pitches, fans have been booing them. So it was no surprise last night when the crowd at Fenway Park let Kerry have it. As soon as it was announced that Kerry would be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, the Boston faithful began booing.

This was somewhat surprising, since many people in the stands were carrying posters with "Team Kerry" and "For a Stronger America: Kerry-Edwards." After the initial wave of booing, some applause mixed in. Then Kerry threw a weak pitch from the grass in front of the mound. It bounced over home plate. The booing came back in force.

All was then quiet on the Kerry front until the 7th inning, when a woman waving a "Team Kerry" poster was put on the Jumbo-tron. The crowd instantly, and vigorously, booed again. Team Kerry shouldn't be overly concerned with the boo birds, but they might be a little worried about how uncomfortable Kerry seems with middle-America events, like sports.

Kerry has long claimed allegiance to the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Yet last week, ESPN's Peter Gammons reported that, Kerry claimed to be a big fan of "Manny Ortez." Having fused the names of Boston's two biggest sluggers, Kerry then compounded the error by correcting himself and saying he meant "David Ortez." No word on what either Manny Ramirez or David Ortiz thought of the slip up.

We should give him a break as he might have thought baseball and cricket are the same.:)

As Austin Powers would say " John, you throw like a woman. Honestly."

Theresa, with a couple of raisins in her, would get it right over the plate.

I really wonder how much that event hurt him. He tried to look like a regular guy and tried to pretend he was a baseball fan. His statements about his favorite team made him look phony. The pitch photo-op made him look foolish.

I bet he sounded just like a pro tennis player when he threw it. They always make that grunt when they swing. Hilarious.

KERRY AND THE RED SOX
As a die-hard Yankee fan, I lost all respect for Hillary Clinton when she put on a Yankee cap at the White House and claimed that she was a lifelong Yankee fan. This is what I like about someone like Rudy Giuliani who says "screw the Mets, I'm a Yankee fan".

Now comes word from Peter Gammons at ESPN that John Kerry is claiming to be a lifelong Red Sox fan and even cited his favorite Red Sox player, Eddie Yost. Only problem is that Yost never played for the Red Sox. Part of being a Yankee fan is hating the Red Sox (and visa versa) so I am HAPPY that the Red Sox fans are stuck with this phony fan poltician but....

Since Kerry is on Imus tomorrow at 7:30 AM EST. I sent Imus an e-mail: Imus you miserable old fool, if you have any balls you will ask Kerry: Why is Eddie Yost your favorite Red Sox player?

Imus has used my stuff before so keep your ears open tomorrow!

UPDATE: The Kerry-Edwards appearance on Imus was extremely brief and there was no mention of the Eddie Yost issue.

UPDATE: TND Friend Danny K. writes "Kerry also referred to 'Manny Ortiz' the other day...Eddie bleepin' Yost! He never played in Boston, for the Sox or Braves (actually he played for the Senators,Tigers and Angels from 1944 to 1962). Why would Yost, who was reknown for drawing a lot of walks, be ANYONE's favorite player?

The Boston Herald reports that Kerry "mixed up the names of two famous members of the Boston Red Sox:

"Manny Ortiz," Kerry said when beginning a reference to the Sox. The senator quickly corrected himself. "Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz" may be taking some time off for the All-Star Game, Kerry said, before noting that his campaign isn't resting through the regular baseball break.

While Danny is correct, I am not so sure the Herald was correct in writing that Kerry was "mixing up" the two names. He may have been thinking of the real "Manny Ortiz".

So, who is Manny Ortiz and why would John Kerry be thinking about him? Ortiz is one of Kerry's biggest donors and a Co-Chair of the Kerry-Edwards Campaign. Ortiz has donated between $50,000 and $100,000 to Kerry. This is the same Manny Ortiz who is a partner at Quinn Gillespie & Associates. And who is Quinn Gillespie? Strangely enough, it is Ed Gillespie's DC lobbying firm. Yep, the current chairman of the Republican National Committee. Maybe Ralph Nader has a point!

A guy from the Army was supposed to throw the ball that night, but Kerry wanted a photo op.

Once again, Kerry screws over the US military.

And he let the guy sit with him for a photo op, and the soldier was then sent up to the nosebleed section.
