Apparent Mexican Winner Attacks Border Wall
The Washington Post ^ | 8 July 2006 | Manuel Roig-Franzia

MEXICO CITY, July 7 -- Less than 24 hours after being named president-elect in a disputed official count, Felipe Calderón took a firm stance against building a wall along the United States-Mexico border to stem illegal immigration.

Echoing his campaign theme, Calderón said the best solution to the immigration crisis was creating jobs in Mexico, "not walls or troops," a reference to President Bush's decision to send National Guard troops to support the U.S. Border Patrol.

Calderón's remarks, delivered during his first post-election briefing for the international news media, angered a leading Capitol Hill proponent of increased border security. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) said in a phone interview that he was "insulted" by Calderón's statement, "just as Mexico would be rightly offended if we were to not only condemn their immigration policies but actively work to aid and abet illegal immigration."

He don't know us very well.

First shot out the gate and he says something to annoy us.

Maybe in exchange for not building the border wall, he can do something about the smugglers and dopers plaguing Mexico, and develop Mexico's energy sector. We'll gladly buy his country's oil and give him lots of money for it. Mexicans would get jobs off that, and wouldn't want to come over here illegally. Better petroleum engineers than strawberry pickers!

Meanwhile, we'd like to see him do something about Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez, like put the thug out of business, if not commission. Maybe he can get busy with that. Then we'll talk wall.

Screw him and his stinking corrupt filthy country. Build the wall. Let him export his incompetence and poverty somewhere else...(a bit late, I know).

I agree that the best solution is to provide jobs in Mexico. Who can argue with that. But it ain't happenin'. Meantime, his people are stealing from American taxpayers. Does he plan on paying us back?

Well, if Felipe doesn't want to do it, then I guess we'll have to.

His position is no different than our own presidents. Why should we be mad at Calderon? Its practically the job of mexican presidents from here on out to get more mexicans into the US and to blur that border as much as possible.

They make most of the money that prevents Mexico from collapsing in the USA.
Also Mexico likes to transport all their drugs across borders as well.

Eventually we need to seal the border and make them come through gates with inspection legally.

What are you some kind of racist?

How dare you worry about the safety and security of your fellow Americans like that. What the hell were you thinking?

Let's see...its our property, we can build any damn thing we want on it.

If he really wants to impress people, he should clean up the corrupt government over there.

Thanks, but I'll take both. Hee, hee!

First shot out the gate and he says something to annoy us.

We aren't the ones who have to keep the PAN in power, so why should he mollify us? That's fine, he can say whatever he wants. We'll get our wall and hopefully he'll get to work on those jobs.

That is an interesting point if you think about it Lurker...

On the American side we are a bunch of different races, but who occupies Mexico?

Primarily three races.
#1 The original Indians (who are enslaved in Mexico today)
#2 The Spanish, who conquered the Indians of Mexico and raped the Mexican Indian women. (These are the ones mostly seen on TV and in power since Mexicans seem to favor those that are not dark.)
Lastly #3 The byproduct of the rapes which we think of as the regular Mexican people who are sneaking here to America.

Perhaps Mr. Calderon wants to escape to the USA and finds any wall too daunting.

And whose responsibility is it to create those jobs? Ours? Maybe they should try practicing birth control so they are not standing on each others heads.

He don't know us very well.

No, maybe he knows his own country better and considering that right now there is a GoreClone breathing down his neck, that was a very good answer to a reporters question.

He'll make a few shameless plays to the crowd for the first few months, establish his "Mexicano" cred. He'll settle down once he learns how the game is played.

What makes anyone think this jackass will turn out to be any less corrupt than Fox?

So far, he's a Fox clone.

Nobody is perfect, I guess from what you just said I might have a different opinion from what Dane or Sinkspur might have on this issue, but I don't know. I have read other great posts from them on other topics and they may have also made some great points in this debate.

I don't know anything about the exact foolishness you might have be referring to, but I do know that I suffer locally from my own local Catholic Church with our Los Angeles Cardinal.

I think many people of faith are believing we should always take care of one another and the poor because it is what Christ might do.
My problems with that is charity and help of certain kinds will never make Mexico a real country on it's own.
Rather than come to our hard fought for paradise to take our jobs and money, they should have the guts to fix their own country.
In addition I have problem with a Catholic Cardinal pulling the BS they do when they DO NOT empty their own treasury to support all the poor and uneducated they want here.
What is even worse, there is no Los Angeles Cardinal going down to Mexico and going on their Mexican television to tell the people to take back their own government and to physically get rid of their own corruption and crime in Mexican government that has their people going north.

The Cardinal seems to be forgetting Thou Shall NOT COVET Thy Neighbor's Goods IMO.

Any charity the American people wish to give to Mexico should be on a voluntary basis and not forced on us by a immigrant illegal invasion.
