China Deploys Nuclear Submarines...Capable of Nuclear Counterstrike

Hong Kong's Xin-bao reported on July 7th that China has deployed next-generation nuclear submarines and is capable of second nuclear counterstrike.

German military publication 'International Navy' reported that China officially deployed recently-developed Type 093 and 094 nuclear submarines, and conducted training exercises. They are in combat-deployment now, according to the publication.

It said that Type 094, Tang-class, is the improved version of Xia-class nuclear submarine, with 10,000-ton displacement, and can carry 16 Julang-2 SLBM's which have the range of 10,000 km. Each Julang-2 can have three nuclear-warheads, which means that a single Type 094 submarine can strike 48 targets simultaneously.

Type 094 has fourth-generation nuclear reactor and is equipped with noise-suppression feature and precision sonar capability. It has superior stealth, mobility, and survivability, which is rated as comparable to Ohio-class submarine of U.S.

Type 093 is an attack submarine with 7,150 ton displacement , whose design is based on Han-class submarine.

If their deployment is successful, Chinese nuclear capability will expand from land-based nukes to second nuclear counterstrike, according to this publication.

People's Daily, Chinese official communist party paper, featured an article on its Internet site about the submarines on July 6th, which is a de-facto confirmation of their deployment.

Type 094 is basically a Russian Delta IV. Why not thank Russia; crack-whore for turd world militaries whose chief export is apparently cold war relics.

Answer: American/EU consumer purchasing cheap asian imports. "

Who's buying US Federal Debt?

Answer: China.

So China gets to sell us laptop assemblies and gardening shovels for 0.1% profit margin, while boeing makes 10% and US Semiconductor mfgs make 30% off those chinese components. Then the PRC buys US Treasury notes because they produce a safe-haven ROI. The Chinese get an IOU, and their Renminbi is then used by our government to buy Medicare and F-22s.

So if you were a chinese freeper, (yes, the equivalent does exist, if not quite as open,) it might not seem like China is really getting the best deal that you think it is.

Thanks for the post. The implications are disturbing. I agree with you that the toons made it much easier for the rest of the world to obtain our technology and improve their defenses. Shameful.

Billy Jefferson Clinton, here's your legacy.

I really, really think one reason the left goes so mercilessly after Bush, is to keep the average person from realizing what the previous administration did to us.

wrong on that one my friend. The Ohio class, is the newest class of FBM ( missile carrying boat) the navy has. It goes to sea and literally disappears in the ocean for 1 1/2 to 2 months at a time. hardest class to find once it goes out. I know, been on them, and on SSNs trying to hunt them.

The only thing the new Chinese boat has in common with the Ohio is its SSBN designation (though four of the Ohio class boats have been modified to carry Cruise missiles - 154 of them - as opposed to 24 Trident SLBMs and are now designated SSGN). Other than that, the Chinese boats will not compare at all in terms of endurance, firepower, stealth, quietness, speed, etc.

Frankly, I never understood the USN disbanding it's OSIS nodes, and giving up on ASW. Just because it was the end of the Cold War, they ignored their own internal papers that showed that there is a military threat (from whatever "new" source) every 25 years.

So, for the sake of saving funding, they disbanded 7 OSIS nodes, abandoned any emphasis on ASW, and here we are - frantically trying to spin back up.

I'm sure that somewhere there is an RFP for a replacement system - and there are those of us who would like to be part of "do this, don't do that" to aid in the development of the "new" system - but we aren't being asked.

And one retired Captain that I know of, who has access to various groups in the Pentagon is so short-sighted, he doesn't think to tap any of us, and frankly, he doesn't remember diddily about the system.

It could make a grown man cry.

It reminds that I was told that Sam Walton started Wal-Mart with the idea of marketing only American goods.

What happened? (rhetorical question)

I am reminded that we sold scrap mettle to Japan before WW11 - that built bullets, bombs, Kamikazes and battleships...

My Pop (who took part in five landings, including bright and early at Normandy on June 6, 1944) said there were plenty of folks concerned about all the scrap going to Japan. The way he put it was, "if we keep sending 'em all that iron, they're gonna throw it back at us." Amazing how so many people fail to learn from history.
