Intelligent design advocates to campaign in Kansas
Lawrence Journal-World (Kansas) ^ | 07 July 2006 | Scott Rothschild

Posted on 07/07/2006 2:39:21 PM PDT by PatrickHenry

A Seattle-based research group that advocates intelligent design said today it will campaign to educate Kansans that the science standards approved by the State Board of Education are sound.

“Kansas citizens need to have accurate information about what the science standards do,” said John West, associate director of the Center for Science & Culture for Discovery Institute.

West said the group will start an information campaign over the Internet immediately and possibly start a radio campaign. He declined to say how much the center would spend.

The decision puts the Discovery Institute in the center of hotly-contested State Board of Education school board races.

The board’s 6-4 decision to approve science standards that question evolution has been a major issue in the five board places that are up for grabs this year. The science standards are used as guidelines to what students learn in Kansas public schools.

Mainstream scientists have said the standards criticize evolution in a way that could introduce intelligent design in science classrooms. Intelligent design posits there was a master force that designed life.

"I'm just some guy.

"What you talking about Willis?

"You want credentials or something?

"What, I gotta have a Degree to post to you or something?

Where did I say that? I could care less what degrees you possess.

What I did say is that you spend a great deal of time telling us just how bad you will make us look if you ever unleashed your imposing intellect, but seem reticent to actually show us any of that great intellect.

Telling us how good you are just doesn't do it, you need to show us through the only medium we have available to us.

Impress us with your mind, not your braggadocio.

It's so obvious ... "...we will move toward direct confrontation with the advocates of materialist science through challenge...we will begin to address the specific social consequences of materialism and the Darwinist theory that supports it in the sciences."

"If there should be a clash in the 21st century, it should not be between Islam and the West, but between theism and materialism. "

As I said before, the Wedge document is just one document, by now it's rather old, and the satement you bold addresses a future hypothetical that is yet further qualified as "possible".

Coyoteman, take a look at the Discovery Institute's stance on Dover and Kansas, and you'll see that they encouraged Rick Santorum to not support the Dover School Board and that they aren't encouraging ID be taught in this case.

...and that science rightly understood does not support materialism.

If I excerpt, I can't tell which side of the ocean that comes from ... Christian fundamentalism or Islam.

No. They got their butt kicked and hands slapped the last time. They know that ID is a lost cause in the courts right now and feel guilty for helping to lose that last case.

I think that DI got caught in the leak of a document they never indended to have made public. It exposed their entire strategy.

Do I think they have "seen the light" and changed their goals? No.

They might have changed some parts of their strategy, but why would we have any reason to think they changed their goals?

On the Dover case, perhaps they just saw a loser from the start and wanted not to be associated with it?

As it is, their entire cause, ID, has been knocked in the dumper for a while. Guess they will have to double their PR budget again, eh?

You want me to speak French?

Maybe I should recite the King James version of the Bible backwards for you.

Yeah, I read a lot......

More than most.........I assure you, I read more than most.

I don't hate you....Why do you want to fight ?

To be sure, Darwin’s theory of evolution is imperfect. However, the fact Case 4:04-cv-02688-JEJ Document 342 Filed 12/20/2005 Page 136 of 139 137 that a scientific theory cannot yet render an explanation on every point should not be used as a pretext to thrust an untestable alternative hypothesis grounded in religion into the science classroom or to misrepresent well established scientific propositions. The citizens of the Dover area were poorly served by the members of the Board who voted for the ID Policy. It is ironic that several of these individuals, who so staunchly and proudly touted their religious convictions in public, would time and again lie to cover their tracks and disguise the real purpose behind the ID Policy."

"Gosh you are such a dickhead.

That is as meaningless as everything else you have so far posted.

"What do I got to do in order to impress you?

By your own words you came to the crevo threads to discuss Evolution. Yet you have said nothing of substance.

You tell us you have a superior mind. Yet you have said nothing of substance.

All I expect is for you to back up your bravado with substance. Or your can admit that your earlier statements are nothing but empty rhetoric.

"You want me to speak French?

Irrelevant and a non-sequitur.

"A little German perhaps?

Irrelevant and a non-sequitur.

"Koine?

Irrelevant and a non-sequitur.

"Maybe I should recite the King James version of the Bible backwards for you.

Irrelevant and a non-sequitur.

"Yeah, I read a lot......

Good.

"More than most.........I assure you, I read more than most.

Good.

You are the one who initially attacked Evolution and bragged that we could not muster the weapons to stand up to you in a battle of minds. Back up those words.

"I don't hate you....Why do you want to fight ?

I do not want to fight. I want to see you back up your words.

You're correct when you state that the Wedge Document was an internal document.

You're mistaken if you think that it represents some secret "real plan" or "Trojan Horse for Creationism". Phillip Johnson would hardly write a book about called "The Wedge of Truth" if it was.

Omaha, I realize that Judge Jones said that. However, I fail to see why what he said is germaine; his behavior following Dover has been quite unprofessional.

If you have something of value to say, say it. Otherwise you are not worth anyone's time.

You are right.

I got nothing of value to add to any thread.

Thankfully, for all of us my vacation is just about over.

It is so cool that you have a grandson.

I got a few of my own, but they ain't that old yet.

If you want to discuss DNA, RNA, and all that other rot, you might as well go find another player. As if seeing something is equivalent to knowing or proving something.

I am tired of this thread, but I'll always be interested in actually learning a few things in order that I can here and there, now and then, rebuke a few folks for trying to sell a bill of goods that ain't legitimate.

There is an old saying.... "From the out house, to the court house, to the white house..." or something like that.

Evos seem to me to spend a lot more time in 2 out of three of those than most folks do.

It is an academic disgrace what is going on in our public schools these days.
