You know, I have it in mind to see if I can pay that Discovery Institute a small little visit...next time I venture up to Seattle, I should see if they will let me visit...I could pretend I am interested in their work, and see if they will take me on a little tour...I could provide a report...

...the science standards approved by the State Board of Education are sound.

Every bit as sound as the boobs on the Board of Education that pushed them through.

I could provide a report...

The Grand Master himself would be very interested in what you can dig up.

Dig up? This is ID we're talking about! There's no digging in ID! It's not like they need fossils or anything.

We have the Republican primary coming up in a couple of weeks. I know some of the ID Republicans on the board have challengers. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

A 'donation' could probably get you in ...

I would be pleased to provide the Grand Master with whatever I can find out...I go up to Seattle only a few times a year, but on my next visit, a visit to the Discovery Institute will be #1 on my 'to do' list...

Ah, I am all a-twitter...

For those new to this situation in Kansas, here are links to some earlier threads (newest first):
Local districts advised to shun Kansas standards [science education controversy].
Science teachers pan new standards: Guidelines violate church-state separation [Kansas].
[Kansas Gov. Kathleen] Sebelius criticizes State Board of Education's move [new science standards].
Within science circles, Kansas square [Evolution controversy].
Another service of Darwin Central, the conspiracy that cares.

That was going to be my next thought...I suppose, that they will require me to become a member or a sponsor...depending on how much they want, it might just be worthwhile, to be on the 'inside' of what is going on up there...it might entitle me to some extra special insider information..

I can easily play a creationist or an ID believer, as I have seen quite enough of their discussions and arguments here on FR...piece of cake...

Intelligent design posits there was a master force that designed life.

The drama queens are out.

Let's call this "master force" what it is: i.e, plain old ordinary intelligence. We see evidence of this "master" force designing skyscrapers, space shuttles, dog and cattle breeds, and even bacteria (e coli made to produce human insulin, for example) every day.

In fact this "master force" is even good at whipping up prejudice to protect atheism in the classrooms of America.

Well let's really call this "plain old ordinary intelligence" what you really believe it to be. God. Which takes it back to theology and not science.

That's not the *intelligent designer* that is at issue. Nobody is denying that humans design things. What is at question is the evidence for a designer of the universe and a director of the evolution of life.

Human intelligent designing is not evidence for the alleged intelligent designer of the universe, unless you want to claim humans designed the whole thing.

Don't start right out with ID. Start with one of there more respectable areas first to keep them from suspecting.

Perhaps the safest tactic to take would be to just act interested in what they have to say, explaining that I am examining and re-evaluating how I feel about ID/creationism/evolution, and I would like some information explaining their positions and ask if they could provide me with some clear cut explanations of their position...

In that way, I would not have to be lie, or actually present my position, I could just present myself as someone who is searching for answers...and actually I am always searching for answers, so nothing I say will be a falsehood...

Too obvious. Either that or they will try to hit you up for the $69.95 DVD.

Well, it will be a few months probably before I get up to Seattle...gives me time to refine my approach...I am sure, many will be able to give me input as to my approach...

Human intelligent designing is not evidence for the alleged intelligent designer of the universe ...

Don't be ridiculous! Human intelligence designs refrigerators. Therefore, those gifted with the special insight to understand these things know with absolute certainty that some unknown "intelligence" from somewhere, at some unknown time, in some unknown way, did some unknown thing to intelligently design the flagellum. It's just so obvious!

Consider bringing one of their books with you, and ask for it to be autographed by the author. Flattery always works.

Those things you call ID could have been designed by aliens from outer space, no?
