Schwarzenegger Finally Gets a License
N Y TIMES ^ | 7 JULY 2006 | MIREYA NAVARRO

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California has finally gotten a motorcycle license after riding his Harley-Davidsons for years in movies and off without one.

A spokeswoman for the governor, Margita Thompson, said he passed both a written and a riding test and got the required permit on Monday, nearly six months after he crashed one of his Harleys into an S.U.V. pulling out of a driveway while riding near his Los Angeles home with his 12-year-old son in a sidecar.

The governor, who needed 15 stitches on his upper lip, said at the time that he had not bothered to get the proper license because he had "never thought about it."

The Los Angeles Police Department did not issue any citations in the accident because department officials said no police officer saw what had happened. Officials at the Department of Motor Vehicles also cleared the governor of any violation, noting that because of the sidecar he was not technically riding on two wheels.

But Ms. Thompson said Mr. Schwarzenegger, who broke six ribs in an accident years earlier, had not ridden since the January crash. She said he had been too busy governing but had finally taken time this week to make himself a legal motorcyclist.

Nice to see the Governator following all the rules like the sheeple have to.

Now if Anne Coulter will just admit heresy, plagerism and fornication and submit to the Inquisition's punishments we can all have a nice weekend.

Governor's don't need to follow the rules. Rules are for the little people.

I went into my beauty parlor yesterday to get a nail repaired and they grabbed me and did a makeover --- took two hours, cost about $150.00 and one of the perks is getting to read the National Enquirer with no guilt... and the fun thing about the Enquirer is the photos of celebs looking awful. There's a photo in there of Maria Shriver that makes Helen Thomas look good.

All he had to do was ASK.
DMV is a bureacracy. They would have printed it and sent it by courier.
Arnold has the power of "The Blue Pencil", i.e., he can cut things from the Budget on a "Line item veto"
Pete Wilson spent eight years "getting even" with the Highway Patrol. The Association had endorsed Feinstein in that election. One thing he did was made an administrative rule that any settlement won in a lawsuit against the CHP was to be taken from the CHP's budget, not the General Fund.

When did mandatory motorcycle licences become law in California, was it in the 60's or 70's?
I had been bikes riding bikes since 1948 and the first licence test was about 20 questions, if I remember correctly.
They had a couple of traffic cones set up in parking lot that you negotiated, stopped and started and went on your merry way.

When I moved to Oregon in '90, the bike written test was more complicated, I didn't have to take a riding test because I had a valid CA licence for trucks and bikes.

I swear that the fools that created those tests had never ridden a motorcycle!

The California On-Cycle Driving Test is stupid. It's difficult on anything bigger than a moped.
