IS IT TIME TO ELIMINATE NORTH KOREA'S NUCLEAR CAPABILITY?
Federal Review ^ | 07-06-2006 | marblehead17

Posted on 07/06/2006 7:54:29 PM PDT by marblehead17

Until tonight, I felt like the crazy little woodchuck's insane actions were like that of a child throwing a temper tantrum. My belief was that we should continue with BILATERAL talks with China, Russia, Japan, Korea, and North Korea. After all, why should the US do anything unilaterally, right? If the news I'm hearing out of Japan is correct, then my views have changed.

indeed.

I am so tired of hearing the "north koreans are starving". why are they atarving? china is rolling in US dollar reserves, they could buy food on the world market, and send it to NK.

the north koreans are starving because both the NK and chinese governments - want it that way.

Go to the link I provided. Also, there are other posts on FR saying that the N Koreans are to fly their flags at 1 AM EDT.

If this is true...

What is THAT going to say to the world about believing America?

I know that Bush has made it very clear, that when we promised to stay as long as necessary in Iraq...the dems have tried to make the USA look like we won't keep our word..or be trusted.

THIS, if true, should be considered MORE detrimental to our integrity, IMHO>

You make a good point and that has been my position until now-maybe. If you read my link, the missle may have been targeting Hawaii. I don't like that.

It plays good in the western world.

Personally, If I was a North Korean citizen, I'd rather be nuked by the US than watch my children slowly starve to death or my family tortured in one of his prisons.

An attack pn NK = an attack on China.

Is China willing to give up on how MUCH it makes on US vs NK?

Questions soon to be answered.

Too bad that airborne laser ABM system designed to disable a missile during its boost phase we have dumped 20 bilion into over the last decade isn't operational - if it was, we could have had it on station 100 the NK coast, taken the missile out 30 or 40 seconds after launch, announced that our surveillance had determined that the missile had failed for "technical" reasons, and NK would have no way to know for sure WHAT had happened....

Have felt we should have obliterated his unroyal idiocy a long time ago--actually--his father.

Certainly him.

Both NK and Iran are run by less than stable people. Both pose sticky and dangerous problems in trying to neuter their developing nuke capabilities. NK poses immediate problems for South Korea should we attack them. Sanctions and dialogue also don't seem to work.

My fear is that should Kim or his successor or some Iranian kook light of a nuke sometime in the future, history will surely condemn us for not taking a real tough stance with these two rogues when we had the chance.

South Korea? I'm fed up with those ungreatful bassturds. All they do is stab us in the back. Pull all our troops out and let them see how much NK respects their country.

All for it. with a missile good for 43 seconds, why would we involve ourselves? Get the restrictions on Japanese Rearmament lifted and see how far Kim-Jong-ill-in-the-head gets in Asia.

I think it should be considered for the future. The present scenario is obvious. There will be empty chatter and resolutions (and as Iraq demonstrated, the UN won't enforce them) in the UN and nothing will happen.

The six party talks have failed and can in no way succeed without China and Russia who have clearly opted out.

It's known that the launch sites in NK can easily be taken out. Yes, this could result in an attack on South Korea and become messy.

But whatever problems we would face now will reappear in spades when this rogue state perfects its delivery system - which it will in time. It's impervious to the normal pressures that sanctions and diplomacy can apply.

It's estimated that 2 million Koreans have died of starvation since 1980. Does anyone seriously think that this Stalinist regime gives a hoot about such "pressure"?

As risky as an attack would be now -- things will be beyond any solution once they develope an effective nuclear arsenal. The toothpaste will be out of the tube and people will lament that we did nothing when we could have.

I would choose to believe about 1/2 of this story. I don't necessarily believe that they thought NK would crumble.

They did not care what happened in the future, as long as their legacy was one of 'peace and prosperity'.
