Judge: Santa Monica Not Liable For Market Crash

(AP) SANTA MONICA, Calif. A judge has ruled that the city of Santa Monica is not liable for a fatal vehicle accident three years ago in which an elderly motorist plowed into a crowded farmer's market.

About 50 victims and relatives allege in a civil lawsuit that the city failed to protect them from the accident that killed ten shoppers and injured 63 others.

Federal transportation regulators faulted the city for using inadequate safety precautions and an outdated traffic plan that didn't comply with government guidelines.

But a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge ruled Monday that the city is "immune from liability."

The judge ruled its traffic plan for running the market was reasonable and had been approved by a certified traffic engineer.

The victims' attorneys say they'll appeal. They say the traffic engineer had no experience with road closures when he approved the plan 19 years ago

I'll say it... the victims who are suing are scum (the lawyers taking this case are scum too, but that's a given). I'm sorry for their loss and/or injury, but to sue the city is disgusting.

Maybe I should sue my city for allowing the sun to make my lawn go brown too, eh? Sheesh.
