MEXICO CITY

Ruling party candidate Felipe Calderon built an insurmountable lead in Mexico's presidential vote count Thursday, but his leftist rival vowed to challenge the results in court.

With 99.56 percent of the vote counted, Felipe Calderon would win even if all the remaining votes went to Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador of the Democratic Revolution Party. He had 35.82 percent of the vote, compared with 35.37 percent for Lopez Obrador.

Lopez Obrador supporters wept in the streets, saying they wouldn't let him be robbed of victory.

Why does the media portray the Mexican liberal canidate as "leftist" while they can't do the same for "leftist" canidates in the Unites States?

I usually here "Democratic rival" or "Democratic challenger".

There's going to be a civil war in Mexico.

No Civil War!

They'll yell and holler, but no civil war. The Mexican people do not have enough arms and can't get them. It would be suicide.

There's going to be a civil war in Mexico.

That same thought has occurred to me.

Ahhhh no sense of humor...a typical liberal trait, please have one implanted over the weekend, you will live longer...

Ahh, you are projecting again. You mentioned the "illegal crazies", which is name calling IMO, you also tried to hi-jack the thread and tried to make it look like you were kidding while doing it. You were trying to start an argument with an illegal alien opponent thereby making it seem as if your statement was true, and you could point out the crazies had indeed hi-jacked the thread.

You are showing strong liberal tendencies, particularly when your response to my post was more name calling. Have a nice day and try to keep your tendency to hi-jack threads down to a minimum, won't you?

Oh, and don't answer this please as it is a thread for the Mexican election not your personal biasis.

They were in the same boat in the 19teens. So, they got the arms they needed from America's enemies at that time. They could do the same again.

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHa...yeah...that's right I am a liberal (insert appropriate sarcasm here) by drawing a little humor out of the constant buggering about illegals in the US then associateing with a "Mexican Civil War", which, looking at all the other posts...is on topic.

So, IMHO, the only poster showing liberal tendencies is you...1) misdirection on your part, 2) denial of the relevance of my post, and 3) your over all lack of sense of humor...

HAHAHAHA...where is the name calling? I only suggest you get a sense of humor...one, which, if you read your responses...you're in dire need of.

In Hoc

Get a clue, chief...

There is a columnist who is being quoted at eluniversal.com.mx who fears a north-south civil war down there (that's pretty much the major divider between Calderon support in the North and Obrador support in the South).

Poor Mexican lefties--just couldn't steal enough votes to win this one? Al Gore and John Kerry sympathize!

Funny! But I will never, ever forgive Al Gore for what he has done to this country and evidently the rest of the world. He behavior is a much greater threat to the world than global warming will ever be. He may have brought revolution to Mexico and all death there will be on his hands.

Somebody needs to say it: having an outright commie come that close to taking over the government of Mexico is no cause for any of us to celebrate. Mexico needs to be fixed. Nobody prospers by trying to dodge bullets forever.

I'm shocked that no one has yet stated the obvious truth about the Mexican election...

It's Bush's Fault.

Hobo, Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro are the reason. He is the perfect bogeyman for Right wing Hispanics to exploit. Calderon saw what happened in Peru in Columbia. If the GOP in this country could find a prominent American Liberal( Not Carter) with ties to Chavez he could be used to win elections.

I was wondering why so many Mexicans voted for Obrador until I learned he promised to give a 20% raise to anyone earning under $800, spend $8 billion in social programs and $20 billion in infrastructure and to keep oil and electricity out of foreign hands, i.e. nationalized.

All hail the state!
