A modest proposal: Lets dump the entire tax code. Lets gather all the tax documents we can find, put them in a big heap, and have a nationally televised Tax Code Burning Day. If the tax lobbies protest, toss them on the fire, too.
Good riddance.
Tax Code Burning Day is possibly a bit extreme, but the idea of chucking our income tax system has been around for quite a while.
When I suggested 10 years ago that we were all suffering from TDB - Tax Debate Burnout - 5,000 readers agreed. They sent in letters and postcards in support of then-Congressman Dick Armey, R-Flower Mound, and his proposal for a simple flat tax.
--------------------------------------
The only problem with the Armey flat tax proposal was that it didnt go far enough. We need to chuck the entire tax system - we need to eliminate the income tax, the employment tax, the corporate tax and the inheritance tax. We need to start over.

Maybe some composite photos for the "FairTax Victory Bonfire"???
An entitlement is taking from one class of citizens and giving to another.Entitlements has nothing to do with "class of citizens". Social Secirity is an entitlement and all "classes of citizens" are eligible for the Social Security entitlement.
I pay SS taxes I'm eligible for the entitlement
Under your scam, if I pay sales tax, or even if I DON"T PAY ANY sales tax, I'm entitled to a (GAG!) "prebate" entitlement
The Fairtax own graph's show a negative tax for some citizens, using your own definition of one class (taxpayer) to another (receiving more tax "rebate" than paid) that would be an entitlement....And it's HUGE!
"Entitlements has nothing to do with "class of citizens". Social Secirity is an entitlement and all "classes of citizens" are eligible for the Social Security entitlement. "
Sure it does! And you're NOT eligible for S/S merely by paying into it. There are plenty of folks who never pay into yet collect from it as well as some who pay into it but never collect from it. For a real Entitlement (such as S/S), the "class of citizen" is an oldster since one must reach a certain age before collecting. That represents a small percentage of the population - a "class". The prebate has no such "class" requirement unless all taxpayers could be considered the "class" - which isn't reasonable.
And unlike a real entitlement (such as S/S) there is no annual funding by means of an appropriations bill with the prebate which is incorporated as part of the definition of the tax law, HR25/S25 and continues each year as part of the tax law.
Also, it's not a "scam" despite what you think since there is nothing fraudulent or deceptive about it. It is a refund of tax money. How many of those eligible for the prebate do you think will pay no tax - and where is your study to back that up? Other FairTax supporters have shown several times on these threads that there will actually be very few (if any) who pay no tax since far and away most people buy taxable things and therefore will pay tax at the 23% marginal rate as will you and I and everyone else.
Other supporters have posted studies that show the prebate to be much smaller in dollar volume that the opponents have stated and in fact that the prebate will actually be funded by not much more that the entitlements it replaces (EITC, etc.). Of course you prefer to ignore that information, don't you?
It is your efforts to mischaracterize the prebate (among other things) that is the "scam" since such an effort IS both fraudulent and dishonest. Your frothing at the mouth will do little good.
And unlike a real entitlement (such as S/S) there is no annual funding by means of an appropriations bill with the prebate which is incorporated as part of the definition of the tax law,Huh? Social Security requires annual funding? Really? What's the bill number for this year?
Sure it does! And you're NOT eligible for S/S merely by paying into it. There are plenty of folks who never pay into yet collect from it as well as some who pay into it but never collect from it.You really are so narrow minded that you have to go to those lengths. The subject isn't who is eligible for SS. SS is being used as an example of an entitlement because it's the ultimate. We don't need to hash over SS laws to make a point about something that only exists in reality in your mind.
Also, it's not a "scam" despite what you think since there is nothing fraudulent or deceptive about it. It is a refund of tax money. How many of those eligible for the prebate do you think will pay no taxRight, government checks will be flying out to every "household" every month and no one is going to commit fraud to get more...because it's the sacred Fairtax and to do any harm to the sacred Fairtax would be sacrilege.
For a real Entitlement (such as S/S), the "class of citizen" is an oldster since one must reach a certain age before collecting.Just like the (GAG!) "prebate".
BTW, I am eligible for SS. Just because I'm not eligible to collect doesn't make me ineligible for the benefit
Get it?
And unlike a real entitlement (such as S/S) there is no annual funding by means of an appropriations billM. with the prebate which is incorporated as part of the definition of the tax law, HR25/S25 and continues each year as part of the tax law.Right, tax money will be sent out just willy nilly every month to every household and the money for it won't be appropriated...got it.
Oh, and the first month it's mailed out, before one dime of Fairtax money is collected, that money is a refund of sales taxes (not yet) paid and it won't be appropriated either. It will also be sent out willy nilly because it's the sacred infallible Fairtax.
