The California Highway Patrol is weaning itself off its fleet of now-discontinued Chevrolet Camaro pursuit cars, switching to new Porsche 987 Boxsters. As a spokesman for the CHP bizarrely put it, The Camaros were at the end of their useful life, and were never able to be used fully given that CHP officers are prohibited from wearing mullets while on duty. (Apparently, droll humor isnt unlearned during baton-fighting exersizes.) An initial order for 200 Porsche Boxsters will be fulfilled by the end of 2005(6), with the majority of units being placed in service in high-enforcement areas, like Irwindale. (PS: Check out those Brembos! These guys mean business.) [Update: Man, were dumb. We so wanted to believe that this was true, that we got burned. Apparently Mr. Nowwegotcha has a better sense of humor than we thought. The mullet joke was too good to be true. Yeesch. The photo is of the CHPs show car, likely taken at the 2005 Palo Alto Concours dElegance.]
CHP spokesman Officer Bruce Nowwegotcha said that after extensive testing the Porsche Boxster was found to have all of attributes necessary for a proper pursuit vehicle. "The Boxster has 2 trunks which allows us to stash all of our police stuff" Officer Nowwegotcha was quoted as saying. "The Camaros were at the end of their useful life, and were never able to be used fully given that CHP officers are prohibited from wearing mullets while on duty" he added.

Porsche Cars North America spokesman Lorna Gattasped said that the CHP contract represents a new market for Porsche in the US and expects other states to watch closely the CHP purchase.
Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), based in Atlanta, Ga., and its subsidiary, Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd., are the exclusive importers of Porsche police cars for the United States and Canada.
If it were true, I'd apply for the job.
Well, they do look proud of their seized asset.
oh so now they will hang out at starbucks instead of dunkin donut?
My gaydar is going off on this one.
...prolly a drug confiscation.
Nothing like Buying American
Considering CHP never chases down the perp and the Porshe doesn't have the weight to do a California Stop I loffed.
What a waste of money. How often do they need the full abilties of that car? Almost never. And if they did need a fast car they should have stayed American and gone with a Vette or Mustang.
Prisoners to be hauled off in Mercedes limousines.
You really need to bring those issues to the attention of Officer Nowwegotcha.
***Frollicking Democrats in charge Alert***
California.......tumbles into the sea......
Sigh, I can forget applying to the CHP.
Where do you put the riot gun?
Now they have to bring in 600 German mechanics and $50 million in special tools to maintain these things. If they had to buy foreign, looks like they could at least buy from one of our allies.
Is this a joke? Really I am serious.
Where are they going to put someone if they make an arrest?
Will they have to wear helmets to drive?
You know there is a rainy season in Cali.
I can forsee leakin roofs already.
How are they going to get big uniform CHP guys in these little cars. Wear is the batan going to fit?
This really is a joke right?
?!?!?Oh-Kay.
let's see, will the Brigadeers dub these kraut burners? or perhaps kraut gassers?
