Times must share blame if people die in attack

One of these days, if you lose a son, a daughter, a cousin or a good friend in a terrorist attack, blame whoever perpetrated the deed first, but secondly blame The New York Times, whose irresponsibility may have enabled the killers to obtain necessary financing.
This story on how the government tracks terrorist funding likewise hurts the paper while also hurting America as a whole by telling the enemy how he might be found out. Said Tony Snow, presidential press secretary, the Times and other papers that broke the story "ought to think long and hard about whether a public's right to know" counts for more than "somebody's right to live."

The Times said they did hold back on this story, but, I think we should take note that they released the story after President Bush's poll numbers went up. I think this is treason for the sake of politics.

Well done, Jay. We need to punish those who engaged in this security breach.

Yep. If laws on the release of classified information were broken, those who broke them should be hauled up.

I also love the perpetual whining about conservative bloggers and radio talk show hosts---as if those forms of media are mere gnats that will be shooed away if batted at long enough.
Moonbats such as the ed of the NYT still haven't appreciated that there's been a seachange in the MSM, that, in fact, there is a new media---one that bubbles from the ground up, rather than the other way around---and it is here to stay.
If your story can't survive the scrutiny the blogosphere---HELLO. That oughta tell you something. That's the new "editorial oversight." That's the new "accountability."
No way around it, Keller. You are not the last word on your paper's credibility or accuracy. Get used to it.

Speaking of the self anointed 'Newspaper of Record' ... yesterday I caught a snippet of the 'Laura Ingraham' show on the car radio. She read an e-mail from a young lieutenant sent to the editors of the NYSlimes. It addressed the issue of their releasing harmful information concerning the governments tracking terrorist funding around the world. The lieutenant's e-mail was well written stating that he sees daily what this funding buys terrorists ... the lieutenant is a Harvard law school graduate and was working in a clerkship capacity when called up for duty. He stated categorically that what the NY Times did broke the law and by the time he returns stateside he hopes the key editors have traded their A/C offices for a prison cell where they deserve to be.
This e-mail, to my knowledge, has not been posted here at FR ... if someone can find this e-mail it deserves to be posted, it was excellent.

The Times has painted itself into a corner.
Fact: Someone can be anti-war without aiding the enemy and without hobbling our government.
If the Times doesn't realize that fact -- then they are idiots. If the Times does realize that fact -- then they are criminals

Duh, they are tracking all major transactions and it's no secret. The method of tracking is the issue and is the major story.
The Times held back this major story while they made an effort to discuss this major story with people in the administration.

What does Bill Keller know about what the terrorists knew and when did he know it? Hmm...interesting. Times ...terrorists....terrorists....Times
The Times sounds more and more like Al Jazeera.

Has the Times made a deal with some terrorists, in order to get stories, in the way that CNN made deals with Saddam?
How CNN hid the truth about Saddam and betrayed the world
...for more than a decade, the network did not tell the full truth about what it knew about Saddam's regime. Moreover, last October, when New Republic writer Franklin Foer questioned Jordan about his network's coverage of Iraq, the executive asserted without reservation that CNN had given "a full picture of the regime".
By Jordan's own admission , that was a lie.

Excellent defenestration of the Times by Jay Ambrose, who is hardly a part of the VRWC. Jay is a hardcore, longtime newspaperman himself and he knows when others in the profession have screwed up. This one will leave a mark.
