ALBANY, N.Y. -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, a longtime supporter of Sen. Joseph Lieberman, said Tuesday she will not back the Connecticut Democrat's bid for re-election if he loses their party's primary.
"I've known Joe Lieberman for more than thirty years. I have been pleased to support him in his campaign for re-election, and hope that he is our party's nominee," the former first lady said in a statement issued by aides.
"But I want to be clear that I will support the nominee chosen by Connecticut Democrats in their primary," the New York Democrat added. "I believe in the Democratic Party, and I believe we must honor the decisions made by Democratic primary voters."
There was no immediate comment from Lieberman.

Anyone know the poll numbers on the Lieberman primary race? Who knows, maybe if he lost and ran as an independent, he could be a spoiler for the Republican.
Party first, Country second ..... way to go, Hilda !
It's official - the DNC has thrown Lieberman over the side.
I can't say I blame her. It would be an enormous risk to endorse a third-party candidate over her party's nominee.
Still, I'm amazed when outsiders even bother to comment on something that 1) Doesn't affect her state and 2) Has yet to happen.
A true "smartest woman in the world" would have known enough not to be drawn into taking a position.

Ms. Sose: "Without one of the 950 FBI files I possess on him,
he cannot be controlled. He has to go."
The way the GOP would "knife" Chaffee if he lost the nomination in Rhode ISland?
Hmmmm?
How many does CT have? Three? Four?
Which is gonna come back and bite them big time since Lieberman is now collecting petitions to run as an independent. If he wins the general election as an indie, which looks likely (according to latest polls), the Dems are finished as a viable 'party of the people'.
I stand corrected they have seven. Wow!
LOL!!
A Republican from Connecticut? Can a real conservative get elected in that state? Do we really need need another Chafee clone?
My understanding of the poll numbers is that if Lieberman loses the Dem primary he would still carry the general election.
Very nice of her (sarcasm off)
I had read the same thing - Lieberman is way ahead with independent and Republican registered voters in CT. This isn't something he's looking forward to, but la Clinton just shot herself in the proverbial assets. When he wins under these conditions, he's adding value to the Republicans more than the Dems. She's missed a great opportunity.
