"And let's not forget that in late 1979, the Canadian embassy in Tehran (at great risk to their own lives) was able to smuggle out many Americans diplomats from our embassy there, before the Iranians held our diplomats hostage for over one year.
THANK YOU CANADA! "
The favor was more than repaid in 1980 when America overwhelmingly dumped arguably the most inept (not to mention pompously self righteous!) President in her history and replaced him with the best one in at least a century:
ALL FREEDOM LOVING PEOPLE THANK AMERICA FOR RONALD REAGAN !!!

My folks live near a border town in NB, and both holidays are celebrated with gusto. In fact, the Algonquin Hotel has birthday cakes for both countries.

Thanks for the birthday wishes for our country. I've been gone all week, visiting my sister-in-law and kids who recently bought a camp in Cape Vincent, NY. No internet available unfortunately. She and I took the ferry over to Kingston, Ontario last Thursday and spent the day shopping.

Good to hear from you Ms. K.
Going back & forth between the tax & spend meccas of New York State & Ontario pathetically looking for any bargains whatsoever would likely constitute a fair definition of "Shoppers' Hell" - LOL!

Shoppers' Hell...you're absolutely right. I went hoping to find some candy bars I'd discovered in the UK, but the big candy store on Princess Street had sold out of them and wasn't expecting any more in :-(
I did however find some Fanta soft drink for my oldest son. It'll be a surprise for him when he comes home next weekend.

Given that up here we never fell for the msm's self-serving juxrapositioning of the traditional political colors, I suppose the bottom line for smart shoppers looking for bargains is:
"Stay the Hell out of 'blue' States & red Provinces !!!"
