I'd like an implant that can help me find my damned keys and/or sunglasses.
It'll be the kids first. For the children. Required to have a chip to enter public schools.
I read a SF novel that I liked alot a while back, in which you could get a socket implanted behind your ear that would take a "personality chip". You could buy different personalities like J-Lo, or James Bond. The major problem is that, rather like when you are drunk, you FEEL as cool as James Bond, and affect some of his characteristics, but the people around you think, "Jeez, it's one of those miserable morons with no life who have to play at being James Bond to feel OK about themselves." Cool idea, tho.
Amazing how we go from voluntary to Big Brother in some people's eyes.
"In February, a Cincinnati surveillance equipment company became the first U.S. business to allow employees who voluntarily got chip implants to use them to enter secure rooms."
It could become a condition of employment. Or probation (say it sets off an alarm if you attempt to enter a bar or other term prohibited location that can be regulated).
I think this is a great idea for Alzheimer's patients, many of them tend to wander off. I had to tag all my dad's clothes with a lable containing his last name (he knew his first name), address and phone number.
Alternate plan. Tattoo a unique identifying number on a person (voluntarily of course) and look it up the database.
Not only will it restore your memory, it will teach you how to play shuffleboard.
How long will it be before we are all tracked like salmon via these chips implanted under skin or in clothing, EZ Pass chips for tollways, GPS devices, cellphones, or other proximity devices? All you need is a certain number of machines that will detect your presence in the area, add a timestamp, and report it to a central computer.
As in Mark of the Beast(666)? But it also could be used as an advanced ankle bracelet for prisoners($5/day to monitor vs $50/day as immate).
now is this for locating them in case of being lost, or is it a memoery enhancer?
And what does that chip do, besides just being there? What are its useful [for Alzheimerites] functions?
IMDB says:
"Plot Summary for;
The Final Cut (2004)
The story is set in a world where implanted microchips can record all moments of an individual's life. The chips are removed upon death so the images can be edited into something of a highlight reel for loved ones who want to remember the deceased. Caviezel portrays the leader of the organization that opposes this technology's development.
In a near undefined future, people may have a Zoe microchip implanted in their nervous system to permit their families retrieve the best moments of their memories and watch on video after their deaths. This process is called "Rememory" and Alan H. Hakman (Robin Williams), a man traumatized by an incident in his childhood, is the best cutter of the Eye Tech Corporation. The company is facing groups that oppose to the "Rememory" and the ex-cutter Fletcher (Jim Caviezel) is leading these opponents
I'd rather forget.
Oh, poo, and here I was getting ready to post: "I hope its at least PC3200 DDR RAM or some sort of tera-quad capacity iso-linear chip", only to discover that, well, nevermind...
