An Ohio governor shut down state parks and gubmint once. Name was Gilligan. Think he ended up on an island. Never heard from him again.

And I'd love to see him haul off and punch the WaPo reporterette in the nose for that snarky comment about gambling.

LOL. Clearly I was channeling your thoughts.

And Jim Webb was the Secretary of the Navy in the Reagan White House, when he was also a Republican.

The Swift Boat Vets have a wonderful reputation for patriotism. To be connected with anything AGAINST Murtha is perfectly within their mission.

The Swift Boat Vets are not connected with this effort against Murtha. I contributed three times to the SBVFT and attended one of their rallies in DC. Personally, I don't like this connection being made. The MSM have painted the SBVFT's efforts against Kerry as being false and untrue. The term "swiftboating" someone has taken on a pejorative connotation, which is in itself false and untrue.

I don't know if Capt. Bailey welcomes this linkage or not, but I am sure that Murtha will use it to portray himself, like Kerry, the unfortunate victim of Rep smear tactics that are trying to destroy his reputation as a war hero and over 30 years of service as a Marine Officer (most of it Reserve). I don't think the linking of "swiftboating" to Murtha is doing us a favor. Bailey must match the SBVFT in providing indisputable evidence and firsthand observations to be successful.

I wouldn't be surprised to see John O'Neill and his colleagues disavow any linkage or support for the efforts of Bailey and Murthalied.com, which seems to be down at this point.

We should probably also paste who did the selecting. Some have thought it was me, or Snugs since she did the graphics.

It's not all Specter's fault.

I understand that, but still blame him even for allowing this.

Senators have the right to put a hold on a nominee and it cannot move forward. I know that Linseed Graham has a hold on someone that the President wanted. There are other senators playing that dirty trick too.

This is a grotesque practice and, like most of the "traditions" in the Senate that have grown up over the last two centuries it is designed to thwart the will of the people.  At the very least he could publicize the holds and embarrass those who are abusing the system for their own gain.  But he won't do that.

A balance must be struck, but right now the Senate wields disproportionate power and individual Senators, like Specter, are out of control, drunk with power.  At the very least the secrecy about these holds must be eliminated.  Specter was one of those leading the fight to defeat even the limited efforts in that direction this last year and he is adamantly against the Constitutional option (the so called "nuclear option").  He's more concerned about the Senate's (read his) privileges than he is about right and wrong or the fate of the country.

The man is a living, breathing advertisement for term limits.

It is a lack of "tolerance" when the speech or action is something that the Right wants limited or stopped.

Exactly. Everytime I hear that "I'm not going to be swiftboated" I think of it as just saying I'm not going to let anyone tell the truth about me and get away with it.

I hope this got posted on this thread but since I'm doing drive by posting today, in case it's not already here, I thought everyone should see how the NYT is virtually inviting a jihadist or a nut to kill Cheney or Rumsfeld:

The NYT has published the street addresses of Cheney and Rumsfeld's summer homes.

In the "Escapes" section of the June 30 edition, the N.Y. Times printed huge color photos of the vacation residences of Cheney and Rumsfeld, "identifying the small Maryland town where they live, showing their front driveways and, in Rumsfeld's case, actually pointing out the hidden security camera in case any hostile intruders should get careless," Horowitz writes.

Times Travel section writer Peter Kilborn even makes sure enemies of the two men will know such details as where Mrs. Rumsfeld shops in the eastern shore town of St. Michaels, Md. where the two administration officials have weekend retreats.

He even lets the curious know what street the Cheneys and Rumsfelds have to use to get to their own road.

It's all part of the war against President Bush, Horowitz charges.

I thought about that too. I'm wondering if a company produces a cigarette wrapped in an American flag paper, is it okay to smoke it? If fireworks are wrapped in the American flag paper, is it now okay to set them off?

I smell a few business opportunities here....
