EXCLUSIVE: TO GET THE "20TH HIJACKER" TO TALK, THE U.S. USED A WIDE RANGE OF TACTICS. A SECRET LOG REVEALS THE FIRST DOCUMENTED VIEW OF HOW GITMO REALLY WORKS
More than a year later, after al-Qahtani had been captured in Afghanistan and transferred to Gitmo's Camp X-Ray, his interrogation was going nowhere. So in late November 2002, according to an 84-page secret interrogation log obtained by TIME, al-Qahtani's questioners switched gears.
The interrogation log of Detainee 063 provides the first internal look at the highly classified realm of Gitmo interrogations since the detention camp opened four years ago. Chief Pentagon spokesman Larry DiRita tells TIME that the log was compiled by various uniformed interrogators and observers on the Pentagon's Joint Task Force at Gitmo as the interrogation proceeded. It is stamped SECRET ORCON, a military acronym for a document that is supposed to remain with the organization that created it. A Pentagon official who has seen the log describes it as the "kind of document that was never meant to leave Gitmo."
The quizzing now starts at midnight, and when Detainee 063 dozes off, interrogators rouse him by dripping water on his head or playing Christina Aguilera music.
Over the next few days, al-Qahtani is subjected to a drill known as Invasion of Space by a Female, and he becomes especially agitated by the close physical presence of a woman. Then, around 2 p.m. on Dec. 6, comes another small breakthrough. He asks his handlers for some paper. "I will tell the truth," he says. "I am doing this to get out of here."

"is subjected to a drill known as Invasion of Space by a Female, and he becomes especially agitated by the close physical presence of a woman" -- the horrors, the torture!
Oh, wait a minute, you can't fill those pages with "They capture someone and chop his head off."
What a shock.
Despite of this, they are giving advice to President Bush on "How to fix Gitmo", which includes treating these terrorists according to the Geneva convention.
How to Fix Guantanamo

Ok. We'll tie you to the chair, and Janet Reno will be right with you...
I find it interesting though that they're always saying their job is not to choose sides but to simply tell what's going on, and yet they're giving advice on "how to fix" Gitmo.
I guess next we'll see them writing articles telling UBL to give up and stop the terrorism--oh, wait, that would be "choosing a side".
"in which teams that specialize in extracting information by almost any means"
I think Time intends your mind to wonder into what ever possibilities are in your imagination.
I believe this qualifies as sensationalism and using emotional triggers, not factual reporting.
You say this is from June 20, 2006, but the article says it's from June 12, 2005. Either way, not exactly news.
- Ok. We'll tie you to the chair, and Janet Reno will be right with you...-
How are they supposed to know it's a woman?
I read the log when it was published about 6 months ago. They don't need torture to get what they want. It's sleep deprivation and behavior modification that does the trick if you ask me. Of course it isn't like hitting a button for mouse food pellets.
Of course, that's what happens when the rich guys get four wives, thus leaving no wives for 3 other guys. They are available for Jihad, which of course ends up promoting the interests of the rich guys. (With "rich" being a relative term only). It's actually a bit worse than that, the rich guys also get to have as many concubines as they can support.
The truth is that they are afraid of women. Like a bunch of 13 year old boys, and they never progress beyond that in many cases, even if they do manage to pick up a cast off from one of the rich guys.
It certainly seems there is a concensus here on Janet Reno...
From the article:
A female interrogator so annoys al-Qahtani that he tells his captors he wants to commit suicide and asks for a crayon to write a will...
I figured this is probably what really went on. They got someone's ex-wife to berate and belittle him until he broke.
He had been stripped naked, straddled by taunting female guards in an exercise called 'invasion of space by a female'; forced to wear women's underwear on his head and to put on a bra; threatened by guards, placed on a leash, and told that his mother was a whore.
There are people who pay good money for this sort of thing.
Oh my god! That would be torture enough for me to crack!
Well, if we are going to 'invasion of space by a female', maybe the should Feds do it right and send her down to Club Gitmo!!
oops, ...the Feds should...
