New Medi-Cal rules kick in

A law requiring Americans to prove citizenship to receive Medicaid takes effect today, but millions of Californians won't have to do so until August.

The California Department of Health Services, which oversees the state version of Medicaid, known as Medi-Cal, won't be ready to comply with the federal law until early August, director Sandra Shewry said this week.

She said state law must be changed and social-service workers in California's 58 counties trained to meet the new requirements. Until then, the process for applying for Medi-Cal and renewing participation in the program will remain as it is now.

The federal legislation, sponsored by two Republican members of Congress from Georgia and signed into law earlier this year, aims to purge illegal immigrants from the federal health program for the poor.

I don't know how they'll do it... but California will find some way around this and make sure the money flows on to the illegals.

Maybe through separate legislation at the state level, but this [federal] bill would force California to spend it's own money for such a program.

So in your warped way of thinking all LEGAL RESIDENTS [green card holders] should surely be exempt from paying taxes, Social Security etc., etc., etc., until they've reached Citizen status since in your world their contributions would not allow them to any benefits.

My 40 quarters were paid in while still a 'LEACH' [your word] before I became a citizen, but according to you I shouldn't be allowed to have any credit for them.

Read more carefully. Medicaid/MediCAL is leaching off the taxpayers. It is wealth redistribution. You don't "pay something in" to qualify for some future benefit. It is taken from your paycheck and handed out immediately. Medicaid has been leaching off your taxes and my taxes.

Social security is a ponzi scheme. The early parties enjoyed the full benefits. Later parties had the pleasure of paying for the party at the full limits. I've paid max SS since 1980. Far more than 40 quarters. I'll likely pay max social security for another 20 years as well. The social security ponzi scheme and leftist good deed gold pot is being drained of everything collected. By 2018, the revenues and distributions balance (no "surplus" left for politicians to spend). After that, benefits will have to be reduced as revenues will not match obligations.

I'm not picking on legal immigrants. I'm railing at the stupidity of the socialist inventions called social security and Medicaid. They are pure and simple theft. As with every socialist invention, the bill eventually comes due. The obligations exceed the revenue.

I'm not saying you shouldn't have "credit" for the quarters you paid. Just realize that it is a phoney number written on a piece of paper that documents how much money the government took from your paycheck and immediately paid to other parties. There is no "money" in your account. Just as there is no money in my "account". Just a record of the theft. I'm turning 50 next month. I rather doubt that any of the money confiscated will ever find its way back to my pocket.

I really didn't need your lecture, I know how the SS system works and am quite aware of all the pitfalls. I also know that unless something is done immediately i.e. GWB's plan, there will be nothing there when I reach the point when I would be eligible, which btw will be after you. I'm just thankful my husband and I had the foresight and good fortune to be able to make other arrangements so we won't have to rely on whether or not there is a SS fund for us to draw on later down the road.

Maybe I'm in the minority or maybe it's because I have several friends who are at or above the retirement age who rely on their SS checks every month to put food in their mouths so I don't look on the SS payments I make out of every paycheck as a negative confiscation.

My original gripe with you was the loose language you used when grouping LEGAL RESIDENTS with ILLEGAL ALIENS and calling them all LEACHES, and personally I think you owe LEGAL RESIDENTS (green card holders) an apology for being so narrow minded.

Recipients of government charity that has been confiscated from taxpayers are leaches. It matters not whether the recipient is a citizen, legal immigrant or illegal immigrant. The government has appointed itself as the arbiter of who is worthy of receiving charity and who is responsible for financing it. The recipients of government largess outnumber the persons who finance it. They have the ability to vote for legislators who offer more government largess...and they do so consistently. The legislators are more than happy to buy more votes with the money confiscated. It will be the ruin of this country.
