The United States government has laid down three rules for the current Israel Defense Forces operation in the Gaza Strip, according to senior sources in Jerusalem: No harming Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas; no harming civilians and avoid damaging infrastructure. Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni will brief the cabinet on the international situation. Livni has been providing Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice with daily updates and is in touch with the UN secretary-general, the coordinator of foreign policy in the European Union and the foreign ministers of Italy, Spain and Qatar. Foreign Ministry officials expressed satisfaction over the weekend with the results of their efforts to obtain international legitimacy for Israel's operations. According to the senior sources, the main concerns raised by the international community have been humanitarian, and to a less extent focused on the arrests of senior Hamas officials in the West Bank. Overall, there is understanding for Israeli actions. The fact that Israel waited for some time after the abduction of Corporal Gilad Shalit before responding militarily and the fact that no Palestinian civilians have been killed in the operations have also helped. Israel's "public diplomacy" efforts, aimed at getting the Western media to support the IDF operations have also borne fruit. The American newspapers The New York Times and The Washington Post have published editorials that placed responsibility for the crisis on Hamas. The outgoing Austrian term presidency of the European Union published an announcement Friday on the situation in the Middle East calling for Shalit's immediate and unconditional release. The strongest anti-Israeli responses have come from Sweden and Norway.

Hey GW and Condi: Please get your HEADS OUT OF YOUR ###ES with respect to these terrorist scum. Damn.
The U.S. always stops Israel from victory, and then wonders why victory is so hard to achieve in Iraq. Sad.
A reasonable request.
no harming civilians
Not intentionally, anyway. Collateral damage happens.
and avoid damaging infrastructure.
Too late for that.
Abbas: perhaps; Chairman Abbas should be harmed if he's a party to the problem and if it will solve the problem.
civilians: yes. Agreed that true civilians should not be hurt.
infrastructure: probably....but it depends on the operational needs and lives at stake.
That leaves what, spit balls?
US should just shut up and watch and learn how it's done.
Was there a wink and a nudge in that warning?
There's a story on Haaretz tonight about the United States under an insurance policy paying to fix the power plant the Israelis took out the other day.
Our tax dollars to fix their power plant, imagine that.

The Palestinian terrorists are expecting Israel to cave in to public opinion and media pressure like the the EU nations often do. However the Israelis are very serious about hunting down and wiping the terrorists responsible as well as the government officials who aided and abetted this kidnapping. The Israelis are not to be provoked.
Dear Israel,
It is a well known fact of history that when you have the
enemy in retreat it is the time to decimate him. One does not back off out of "humanitarian concerns", the enemy can
only be defeated decisively, or the war continues.
They have said they will throw you into the sea as you try
to negociate with them for these many long years.
Now they have a duly elected government that has kidnapped
and attacked your sovereign nation, it's time to assume the
aspect of a lion and defend yourself.
From this American I can only say....."Let's Roll!".

Who the hell are we to tell the Israelis what to do. They know how to fight their enemy very well. It's not our place to put demands on them.
Yeah, we wouldn't want to do that--harm our mortal enemies
and the scourge of mankind in the 21st century: moose-limbs.
By God, I agree with that one hundred percent.
What the hell is the matter with the leaders of this country! Until terrorists pay very dearly for their actions...i.e. kill every one of the rag head M.F.s in Gaza, they will continue the terrorisim...because there is no consequence...no penalty. We have got to stop holding back Israel from doing what they should have done years ago...either destroy or displace the muslims that are living in the land that belongs to Israel.
