Vanity

Posted on 07/01/2006 4:25:19 AM PDT by William Tell 2

This year's nine day festival here in Philly will feature:

On Independence Day - Justice Samuel Alito giving a speech at Independence Hall on Independence Day, the tapping of the Liberty Bell by descendants of the signers, and the laser scanning of the Liberty Bell.

Also there will be the Southwest Airlines parade and a concert on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on the steps of the Art Museum by Lionel Ritchie, American Idol winner Fantasia, and the Philly Pops orchestra.

Followed by a fireworks and laser show spectacular.

On July 3 there will be another concert by Peter Nero and the Philly Pops that evening in front of Independence Hall ( this is a great concert by the way. We've been going for ten years now).

From 12n to 2pm there will be a Salsa Festival on the Ben Franklin Parkway with all the food you can eat.

There will also be a BBQ on the Battleship New Jersey.

Tonight there is a concert at Penn's Landing with CeCe Peniston ( have no idea who she is ) and the Ohio Players ( them I remember). This will also be followed a a fireworks and laser show.

There will be several other jazz and gospel concerts, a Bash at Betsy Ross's House and several readings of the Declaration.

So come on down! You already missed the first four days of the Festival.

It didn't really prosper until they learned to produce tobacco as a cash crop.

You do realize the major sin you have committed here, don't you? You mentioned tobacco in a positive manner..........that is not permitted in the USSA.........ask the people in Philadelphia, they'll tell you all about it.

Don't forget the Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross House, Carpenter's Hall, the Graff House (where TJ wrote the DOI), Benjamin Franklin House, Benj. Franklin's Grave ( throw a penny) at Christ's Church where Benjamin Rush is also interred. St Peter's Church where Stephen Decatur and Geo. Dallas are buried (for all of you who do not know history Decatur is the Shores of Tripoli Decatur and Dallas Texas was named after Geo. Dallas), St Mary's where Commodore Barry ( father of the navy) and Jackie Kennedy's great great great great grandfather are buried, and Old St.Joseph's Churhc where Lafayette used to go to mass.

Don't forget City Tavern where Jefferson, Washington and even Paul Revere used to hang out and you can still get an excellent meal, Tun Tavern ( the brithplace of the US Marines), Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the Revolutionary War, the first 'White House' known as the Executive Mansion, the first Supreme Court and the new National Constitution Center the only museum devoted to the Constitution of the US.

There are tons more places to see and do as well.

Yep, come on down to Jamestown where it all began almost 400 years ago.

Yep – there’s even some of those Massachusetts Yankees trying to say the first Thanksgiving was up there in the snow!

We brought a bunch of kids to Philadelphia couple years ago and took in everything they possible could bewtwen 10a and 11p (including the Lights of Liberty show) .. had a great time and hope to return now that the new museum has opened.

You need at least 3 days to see Independence National Historical Park.

Throw in the Franklin Institute, Art Museum ( if no other reason just to run up the steps like Rocky), Valley Forge, Brandywine, the Civil War Museum for some day time trips.

At night there is Dave and Buster's ( a gigantic restaurant/video arcade) for the kids, South Street ( for the high school college age crowd) the Italian Market (also portrayed in Rocky), a ton of restaurants and nightclubs along the waterfront for the adults, Boathouse Row, the museums along the Parkway, theaters along Broad St

You got yourself a good week of activities.

That does not even merit a response.

If you do not consider the city where the government of the greatest nation in human history was created important, then there is not much anyone can say to change your mind - norshuold they for that matter.

And another thing for Virginians...

We don't get our pantaloons in a twist over a good bit of nayberly rivalry.

Go ahead have yer party. But the FACT remains that without the Virginians, there would have been no Philadelphia.

Have some sweet tea and Midol and get over yerself.

The great juxtaposition: Philadelphia, on one side of the river, where they are celebrating the nation's founding, and Camden, New Jersey, on the other side of the river - a burned out, blighted, dope-dealer and pimp infested hell-hole, a living/dying monument to government welfare and nanny-state socialism.

Be nice to see Lynn Swann turn up at the Philly celebration because you know Fast Eddie Rendell will! Just make sure the Phillies don't go or the Sixers or the Flyers or the Eagles. That might be a downer!

You know it all makes sense now, a Clymer was the first Pennsylvanian (at least alphabetically) to sign.

Too bad on this day of all days you forget what another great signer of the Declaration said...

“We must all hang together, or most assuredly we will all hang separately."

Gee, where was that guy from?

My first post to you was a bit of good natured ribbing. You've just turned out to be another Clymer.

A big one.
