This "unpaid activist" has just happened to show up in Maine and has paraded around this state, trashing Colorado's Taxpayer Bill of Rights and making dire predictions for Maine if we pass our version of the Taxpayer Bill of Rights. We are thinking she isn't the innocent mother of four that she claims she is.
Anyone out in Colorado have any information on her as far as her activism in your state?

Hey Bogey,
The resort towns in Colorado are hotbeds of liberalism. Not sure why this is. Lots of trust-fund babies and idle rich people? Lots of college age kids fresh out of school, looking for a good time? Never heard of Ms. Hargrove, but she sounds like one of THEM.
She claims she is a conservative Republican!
"With the help of AARP, I was able to tell my personal story of how TABOR impacted my family, my small business and my community in a very rural area of Colorado.
But in response to my comments on a radio show in Bangor, the sponsor of Maine's TABOR initiative, Mary Adams, said that I was "squealing" along with the "pigs at the trough" such as AARP. This upset me greatly.
I am a mom. I represent my children. I am passionately against TABOR because of how it hurt the public schools in Colorado. School children in Colorado (and Maine) are not pigs.
Adams also implied that I had a partisan agenda. That is simply wrong. I happen to be a fiscally conservative Republican but I have, and will, work with elected officials from any political party to oppose TABOR. "
- Kristi Hargrove, says she is a "PTA leader who lives in Crested Butte, Colo."
This is a contradiction. TABOR is the very essense of being fically conservative and pro-taxpayer. It doesnt stop higher spending, it merely makes it harder and gives the taxpayer a leg up.
Basically, the public education and welfare lobbies found a front who wants to make it easier to spend more taxpayer money. Why do they care that she is a Republican?
Apparently, she is the Cindy Sheehan of the anti-TABOR movement, quoted by liberals in several states to oppose TABOR.
Nebraska:

Montana:
http://www.billingsgazette.net/articles/2006/04/11/news/state/40-spending-cap.txt
"Living above 9,000 feet in Crested Butte, Colo., Kristi Hargrove's four children were used to 2-below winter temperatures. So when they came home complaining their school was cold, Hargrove thought they were joking.
Then the small business owner and PTA activist found herself chilled after just 20 minutes of volunteer work at the school.
"Kids were wearing coats all day in school and some wore gloves to take notes," she said. She blamed the 1992 Taxpayer Bill of Rights or TABOR, a constitutional amendment resulting in spending cuts in Colorado. "I would hate to see another state face what we've faced. Don't make our mistake," Hargrove said."
Also this gem ...
"A study by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities in Washington, D.C., a nonpartisan research group, found that Colorado's strong economic performance in the 1990s was due not to TABOR but to long years of funding education and other factors." hmmmm... Colorado passes TABOR, *then* the economy in Colorado does better than the rest of the country, then a liberal think tank works long and hard to find no connection between those low taxes and higher growth rates, but instead credits 'funding education', yet Kristi insists the funding is not enough.
And in Maine:
http://www.notabor.org/
Lisa Weil, a Coloradan, says, "The things you care about in your state will disappear; they will start crumbling; your schools, your roads."
According to Kristi Hargrove, a Republican, parent and small business owner, TABOR has literally had a chilling effect on Colorado schools. "The kids were freezing in school; it was ridiculous. They were wearing coats to school and in some of the schools taking notes wearing gloves."
And Oregon:

"2. Tabor - Kristi Hargrove, a Republican businesswoman from Colorado hit the state on a whirlwind 48-hour Tabor tour. While here she met with everyone from the governor to the Salem Chamber of Commerce and spread the message to Oregonians: When it comes to Tabor, just don't do it."
Ah, the truth starts emerging ...
http://www.wweek.com/editorial/3230/7613/
"A petite 49-year-old mother of four from rural Crested Butte, Colo., Hargrove usually kept busy working at the general contracting firm she owns with her husband and serving on the local school board.
But these days, she's meeting with budget and policy wonks and politicians from across the spectrum, holding press conferences and even starring in a short film by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities in Washington, D.C.
... Hargrove says the amendment devastated social services so much that she helped run the successful campaign in 2005 to suspend the Taxpayers' Bill of Rights (or TABOR) for five years, getting 52 percent support. ..."
Hello. She helped RUN THE CAMPAIGN TO OVERTURN TABOR IN COLORADO IN 2005, AND SHE IS NOW SHILLING WITH THE LIBERAL ACTIVIST GROUPS, LABOR, ETC. TO STOP TABOR IN 48 STATES ... and the lyin' biased media fails to mention that?!?!?

PS. AARP breaks campign laws to support higher Government spending ...

"AARP members are people 50 or older.
"We have nothing to hide," said Claudia Clifford of AARP-Montana. "We're concerned about the impact this will have on government services and property taxes. When the state doesn't adequately fund schools, local property taxes go up."
Clifford confirmed that AARP-Montana sent a mass mailing to its members this spring, warning them not to sign CI-97, and that its cost was not reported as a campaign expense. The mailing is "not a reportable (campaign) expense," she said, because it's a communication with members.
"(Campaign) reporting laws are about communication with the general public," she said."
Actually, I'm not bogey but to my earlier post, I'd like to ad that if the wash rag and soap is ineffectual in treating a crested butte, a topical antibiotic may be necessary.

Another for the collection.
This twit is a liberal nutball!
Unlimited search hits come up on her on every demonrat site out there.
No such thing in Crested Butte!
Go here ==> http://www.i2i.org/main/page.php?page_id=1
It's the Independence Institute's website. Send them a note and I'll bet they'll know who it is.
"Nebraska arguably may need tax reform the Journal Star in the past has called for a blue-ribbon tax summit to discuss fundamental change in Nebraskas tax structure but the proposed spending lid would just make the states property tax problem worse. Coloradoans are now finding themselves going from state to state telling other taxpayers not to make the same mistake they did. Kristi Hargrove, who described herself as a Republican fiscal conservative and PTA mom who voted for the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, recently told reporters that People didnt understand the consequences of what they were voting for, she said. Ultimately the states finances created such a mess that voters suspended it, Hargrove said. Theres no need for Nebraska to make the same mistake. Keep the SOS proposal off the ballot. Dont sign the petition." ...........................................................
She is also a director of the Colorado State PTA.
"Colorado's voice for children. Since 1907 Colorado PTA has put volunteer strength behind programs and projects aimed at creating a better life for every child. Colorado PTA speaks on behalf of children and youth in school, in the community, and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children."

She describes herself as a Republican who intially voted for TABOR in Colorado, but learned of its dire results. I would think the Colorado State PTA helps with her educational travels.
The reason resort towns are full of liberals ?
In the 1960 and 1970 people like Hunter Thompson brought their drugs and life style to overwhelm the original working farmers and ranchers.
These activists stacked the city halls and county commissions with other liberals also wanting cheap drugs with no police hassles...
Most normal family types moved to the next county to raise their families, while commuting to the resort for a decent paying job.
That left the liberals in these towns who have also become socialists. They vote themselves government housing, more government jobs, mass transit, government health care, government benefits like recreational centers...They never say no to a tax increase because they do not pay much in taxes.
The main tax payers are the tourists who pay the high sales taxes...but do not vote. The second homeowners like Oprah, Tom Cruise, David Letterman...pay the rising property taxes...but do not vote.
The perfect storm...voters who do not pay taxes and taxpayers who do not vote.
Bump
She is blowing smoke.
TABOR is the one last financial hope for Colorado Tax Payers. Every liberal socialist complains about it.
They think that it is terrible to have to go to the voters for permission for more tax money.
TABOR just requires these big spenders to get voter approval.
With the huge influx of "city" people from California, Mexico, etc. the rural working character is under attack.
The liberals from Crested Butte, etc. want to be able to raise the tax payers taxes above the inflation rates without asking for permission.
Please tell the Maine voters to try to keep some control over the liberal's desires to raise the taxes above the inflation rates without getting prior permission.
Watch out.
"Hargrove came to Oregon to warn against the signature-gathering effort by Don McIntire's Taxpayer Association of Oregon to put a TABOR-like amendment, "SOS Oregon," on the state's ballot in November."
" These days, she's meeting with budget and policy wonks and politicians from across the spectrum, holding press conferences and even starring in a short film by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities in Washington, D.C.
Last week, she came to Oregon, where her tour included a press conference with Gov. Ted Kulongoski. "

She is everywhere...Nebraska...
Kristi Hargrove, who described herself as a Republican fiscal conservative and PTA mom ...
Another editor who loves higher taxes imposed without a vote.

Actually, the actual natives of the area, refer to that resort area as Crusty Butt.
